Those drop-in liners are evil, I think.

Aside from stuff sliding all over the place, which is just an inconvenience, the paint damage and rust issues they tend to cause is bad.

The rust is the worst, the water build up between the bed and the liner...

As long as the weep holes are clear don't see how a liner can cause rust.

They can do it in two ways, usually in combination. First the liner can wear the paint off, and moisture stays trapped between the bed and liner.

But I suppose that if the rest of the vehicle rusts just as quickly, the hidden corrosion under the liner is no big deal.

I've retired several trucks due to rust, and not a one of them was in the bed interior. In fact, I can't recall a situation where it was anywhere other than from under fenders or inside door corners, working its way from inside out.

I bought a dual rear wheel p/u truck new in 2001. Today, it has 79,000 miles. When it's used, it has hauled tons of fertilizer, 3600 pounds of concrete block (One), GN horse & flatbed trailer, fuel tanks, firewood, etc. Only the truck can transport these items. As a grocery getter, it sucks ... fuel 8.1 liter gas engine is very thirsty. Didn't go diesel because of the low mile usage. Glad I did. Today's diesels are burdened with EPA controls.

Can be a PITA to cut holes in them so they don't cover up the factory bed hooks

The liners we've been getting in our company trucks have holes cut to accommodate the bed hooks. My Colorado has a rubber mat, which I need to take out and clean before winter. I also inherited a couple of spring loaded shower rods from my father which work well between the sides of the bed to keep fuel cans and other items from sliding around.

I know they make something for the same purpose but these were free!

They rely on being the lowest point. Are they when you’re parked on an incline? No.
The surface tension of water also allows plenty of water to hang on the underside of the liner where it’s not in contact with the bed, and later drip to a non-draining area.
Weep holes also very frequently either bridge water drainage, or get completely blocked by pine needles, dirt, sawdust, etc..
