I’m just not attracted to a truck unless it’s got 4WD and an oil burner (diesel) under the hood.

I did actually look very briefly for a 2005 Silverado SS back in '19; but they are expensive now. Also, 4 wheel steer Denali anyone?
Or that weird SSR mini truck thing, maybe an S10 based vehicle, with 400 hp LS2 corvette motorView attachment 1436965
We looked at a SSR last year, it looked fun, bought this instead. LS3 6.0

I recall reading that the money watchers killed the SSR by nuetereing the designers original choice for an engine?

Oh, thank God. Those Silverado SS trucks were slow as balls. Made no sense. I knew 5.3L Z71 guys who would out pace them. I'm pretty sure they used a LQ9, and if not it was a LQ4.

At one point, the 5.9L Dakota R/T was the fastest production truck on the market; 0-60 in 7.9 seconds.

Now, that's not even a quick truck.

And yes, I know there are guys that will say, if you want something sporty, don't buy a truck; but to each their own
Maybe for year model 98. Starting in 99 the GEN2 Lightning ruled the roost and would easily best a R/T until the Ram SRT10 was introduced in 04. You want a badass OEM truck, look at a GMC Syclone.

Remember the Shely Dakota convertible? Google doesn't show a convertible, Shelby Dakota, but I have seen one in Keystone Heights FLa. Might be modified?
I drove one of those once.

And one of those. Had to look in the mirror to notice that something was going on with the rear wheels.

Even now, there is some weird stuff if you know where to look; 5.7L Hemi Charger AWD, Chevy Caprice SS, Ford Taurus SHO; all police interceptors. The LEO Ford Explorers aren't dogs either.

Edit: yes, I'm sure there is a way to attach a trailer hitch to that Explorer interceptor too; just so we stay practical

Seeing AWD Durangos with the 5.7 made me think about buying one.

New ones are somewhat expensive, and the used ones all had very high idle hours, so I ended up with a regular used V6. It's fully loaded, except for the sunroof (which I didn't want) and even has a receiver that'll never be used.

Wife had the Pentastar V6, and they actually tow pretty well. No, maybe not 10,000lbs; but 4-5,000 lbs and they do tow well. Transmission was always a bit jerky from 1st to 2nd; and 2nd to 3rd; even at just normal speed, no load. Eventually had an issue with a Speed Control module or something, that was unavailable, and had to be sent to rebuild in Canada, cost just over $1000; and when it went, you lost all shifting, lost tachometer, ect. Also, the original oil filter housing had a weird plastic tube that went inside the cartridge, with a check ball and spring, that originally wasn't available as a replacement with replacing a lot more. Doorman eventual came out with like a $26 part that just replaced that tube/ball/spring assembly, but the whole Mopar assembly was like $300. Also had a transmission cooler leak early on, but it wasn't that expensive of a repair

My FIL was a Car & truck reviewer for a nationally syndicated newspaper and he got one of those to review. I got to drive it and was blown away by its speed. It was sick.
