I guess I was just the right age, as they were coming out while I was in elementary school, and the toys were a huge draw.
The second trilogy in the early-2000's wasn't nearly as good, but that's what always seems to happen as the creator ages, but still tries to maintain creative control. The third trilogy in the 2010's was a little better, IMO.
Going back and watching the originals 35 years later with my kids, I thought they were still fun. I also liked the animated Clone Wars animated series, which I watched with my son when he was very young.
