Well my old rider tractor finally gave up. It is on it's third transmission, and I don't feel like crawling under it to remove it and try to fix it.

SO, I have been looking at battery powered lawn mowers. I don't want a Z-turn and I have to have a mower that will fit in my storage shed. The old gas powered mower had a 36" mower deck. Well guess what, no body makes one in 36". The only battery powered mowers I have seen are either 30" or 42" or larger. So I am wondering if anyone has any experience with the Hart 80V 30" rider.
As far as I can tell, they are only available from Walmart and I can not find one locally to actually look at and test drive. There does not seem to be a lot of information on the internet about this rider.

The model number is H80RM01. It has two motors for the blades and one for the drive. It has two "suit case" type batteries similar to the 80V Ryobi mowers. Interestingly, I sent a e-mail request for the operators manual to Hart and I got an e-mail back from Ryobi ??

So what say you all ?

Hart is a house brand for Walmart, Ryobi may be the OEM for some of the tools they sell.

The Ryobi 30" has pretty good reviews at HD. I wonder how many similar components are in the Hart version?

I just got a Greenworks 42 inch tractor and I really like it , it cuts good and has lots of power for my hills. Did you look on utube for reviews on the Hart

You're right... no small riders in the US anymore. There are in Europe though! Check out the Husqvarna R 213C:

37" articulated rider. I've seen these at dealerships in France. They look like fabulous mowers for a small yard.

Hum - not from what I see. It has lead/acid batteries.

Here is what I found from the Ryobi website:

I bought this 3 years ago and it worked well but as anticipated the batteries will no longer charge and nobody wants to service it. I found one place that is willing to sale me the batteries but they want 1000 so now I just have a giant paper weight. some people talk about converting the battery to lithium but I don't have that skill set.

Terrible Battery and Charger implementation

The battery life and availability of replacements is major issue. I have 67 hours of run time over 3 years, and the batteries are bad. Replacements are backordered for months. I firmly believe the charger and instructions for charging and off season storage are bad. I had to find an alternat ice Li ion battery solution. That is what should have been installed in the first place. I will think twice before I ever buy a Ryobi product again

WORST EVER! AFTER 2 YEARS IS USELESS, WHEN BUYING THEY GIVE YOU 3 YEARS WARRANTY, AFTER 2 YEARS WHEN THE BATTERY DIES, THEY TELL YOU BATTERY WARRANTY IS 1 YEAR, USELESS, WASTE OF MONEY, TIME ENERGY, POWER. I WILL NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO ANYONE. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS ZERO.

The led acid batteries died after 22 hours or work

The led acid batteries died after 22 hours or work, the Ryobi doesn't take the responsibility, obviously they did know exactly that led acid batteries are not going to work for more than 2 years, and they adjust their warranty with that time, my machine was inside my garage, and I use it in one year just 22 hours and the batteries died, their recommendation is to buy from them the same batteries which does not make since

No I haven't good idea. Will check it out.

Also I have not had good response from Hart. I am still looking for a detailed warranty PDF and information on how it would be serviced under warranty.

There's a youtube video that says the Hart is different in having 80v lith ion batteries.

But with the Hart list price of $3498 (?), why not buy a regular 30 gas rider for $1939? Troy-Bilt 30 in. 10.5 HP Briggs and Stratton Engine 6-Speed Manual Drive Gas Rear Engine Riding Mower with Mulch Kit Included TB30B - The Home Depot

I have a similar Husqvarna Rider 15.5/hp. I can say how good it is since I've only been using it for over 21 years. It does have one of those unreliable Kohler engines, but it jus keeps ongoing. Best cutting mower I've ever seen, and a near zero turn; actually it's a 4" turning cirlce.
The articulating mowers are made in both USA and Sweden. The Swedish ones are supposedly better, but I cannot attest to that rumor.

For years at Deere, another staff engineer and myself always pushed to develop a small yard mower like this. My mom and my MIL both wanted to keep active outside later in life (alone) and mow themselves. Riders were mainly gone and replaced by lawn tractors... not the right machine for their yards! So I bought them electric start walk-behinds (money was not the issue).

Deere was 'all in' testing electric lawn tractors then. Marketing test groups were ambivalent (double the cost of gas.) We thought a platform like that Husqvarna (maybe even smaller) was the ticket. Inside, we called it the "geezer mower". Would have been the cheapest 'concept' ever done... just ship a few production units over from Europe and put them in customers hands for evaluation! THAT would be the platform to electrify someday we thought.

At a product event we saw the VP responsible for new product development and went over to him. We got about 2 minutes to discuss the Geezer. He quickly shot it down. "If it is so good how come Husqvarna doesn't bring it over?"

We wanted to say "because their leadership is dumb?"

They sell those here in usa also, but there not big sellers. My local kubota dealer sells them

Every stupid battery powered electric piece of lawn or yard work equipment i have purchased has never lasted more than 2 to 3 seasons. Than batteries are shot and either cant be located, or have been improved and dont fit. Never again. My stihl string trimmer is 20 years old still works. Replaced carb with chinese ebay one years ago. Thats all. My stihl farm boss chainsaw is 30 years old, and i only replaced bar and of course chains. Still working after 30 years. Wifes mantis is over 20 years still working. My huskvarna lawn tractor is every part of 20 years old, still going strong but has had 3 deck replacements (rocky ground).

Its gas or nothing for me.

I don't think they sell the small deck though (30-37")?

Maybe Mr Big was right all along.... a lawn tractor is not the greatest platform to replace a rider in a small yard though.

I briefly owned a 30" rear engine gas rider, but ended up selling it pretty quickly because it didn't have the same traction on the steepest part of my yard as a ZTR, plus the 30 cutting width and not being a ZTR meant more time mowing for me. It might be fine for a small yard that doesn't have much of a slope. But I'd want to know how the electric versions fare on slopes before spending $3500 on one.

IDK, US consumers are odd when it comes to lawn mowers. My impression is that it took years for ZTRs to catch on here. Seemed like Dixon was one of the few companies that made a ZTR, and then finally other companies starting making them.

Funny you mention slopes... in general, ZTR's are not ideal on slopes because they are tractively steered. Break traction and it's a roller coaster to the bottom! Definitely a learning curve and more tailored to a pro cutter.

It's been well documented for years, consumer mowers are sold on: price, HP, and width of cut. They run around and shop on those 3 things.... manufacturers know it and play the spec game.

The painful thing is I bought that rider for around $500 in 2016 with practically zero hours, and now it retails for $1900+ I don't think I lost any money on it when I resold it, but thinking about that mower reminds me of how inflation has gotten out of control.

That is good looking machine. I notice that it has two blades. The fact that the HD mower that someone suggested has only one, 30" blade. I'm not to keen on that.
