Park Point of MN and WI and the longest fresh water sandbar in the world. We lived there for a few months but I don't see those three story apartments in the photo which is looking south.
-----------------------------------------------
The first time I went to Park Point I was confused. How could such a thin strip of land not only naturally form, but survive intense storms off of Lake Superior? Over hundreds of years it has survived however, and it plays the same vital role in the Twin Ports area now as it did to those before us. Providing a natural harbor for the waters behind it, Park Point has a fascinating history.

What a few million iron ore pellets from the Tilden mine look like cascading into the hold of the Lee A. Tregurtha. A fast shutter speed froze the pellets in mid-descent. Marquette, MI - August 13, 2024

The saltie Barbro G is at anchor waiting to load wheat at CHS in Superior WI. Some of you might recall this same vessel opened our salt water season when it arrived to load wheat at Riverland AG in Duluth on April 1. The weather was just a tad bit cooler compared to today's 87F.

I'm intrigued with these "new" life boats. Would they load the crew in, then "launch" it? Wild ride...

Whatever they are called, these lifeboats are the norm on boats n ships now. Yes you get in, and they are released. Seems they are going to these because if a boat is listing, they couldn't be dropped into the water. New style can be used at any list so are safer.
