Maybe some of you remember a story I posted five years ago about a young girl in our community being attacked by a stray dog in her house. She came within a millimeter or two of being killed by the dog's bite. Well five years later she is still having problems.

The following is from her mother's Facebook page.

====================

"If you know her story, you know how strong she is. Malley Jo is superhuman.

2019: Malley Jo 9 years old was viciously attacked by a stray dog which resulted in emergency surgery, an extended hospital stay, wound care, wound vac, and months of physical therapy. Severe damage to the right thigh. She made a full recovery with zero lasting effects.

2022: Randomly the wound opened back up. Wound care for several months with no progress, eventually we had a surgical scar revision done which was very successful.

January 2024: Again, with no medical explanation, the wound reopened, constant pain in the leg, debilitating pain. Finally consulted a pediatric plastic surgeon at Cincinnati Children’s. Once a plan was in place we were connected with a pain team, wound care, and plastics at Cincinnati Children’s.

August 16th 2024: liposuction of the abdomen to provide fat for injections in the right thigh, removal of scar tissue that was tethered to the muscle causing the muscle to be extremely irratated. This was the cause of the constant pain. The original plan was to find a nerve that was believed to be encased in scar tissue, thank goodness this was not the main issue. Scaring was so deep it was pulling on the muscle every time it would move, causing a constant tug and pull which resulted in the muscle being inflamed, red, and sore. When the muscle was touched during surgery, it would quiver, her muscle was exhausted. Once the scar tissue was removed, the fat from the abdomen was injected all through the layers of the muscle in the leg.

Results and Moving Forward: her leg looks AMAZING! Two scars from the original surgery were removed. The “dip” in her leg is almost nonexistent. She is very sore, but in great spirits. No stairs, so she has taken over my room… and we are okay with that. We came home from Cincinnati yesterday as soon as she was released from recovery. For 2 weeks she is homebound, for 6 weeks no activities. She will be in physical therapy for a while once released fully. We are confident that this will “fix” her leg and hopefully allow her to live pain free.

Her story is amazing, it’s one of strength and perseverance. We are so thankful for all the doctors that have treated her over the past 5 years. We are hopeful and pray that this will be her last surgery due to this event. We appreciate all the messages, thoughts and prayers. When I say we have the best village I mean we have THE BEST VILLAGE! We are so abundantly blessed!"

====================

The day of the attack the parents and their four children were getting packed to leave for a weeklong cruise. The dog came into the garage and into the house and attacked the girl who did not realize it was anywhere around. The mother grabbed the fighting dog and pulled it off her daughter.

Dog attacks happen more than one might expect. A retired co worker was out jogging, and was severely mauled by several feral dogs, who formerly belonged to a drug dealer who abandoned them when he was imprisoned.

Vicious Dog Attacks – Oklahoma – Oklahoma History
They won't let us have the best thing for this type of attack.. double barrel 12 with a short stock and shorter barrel.
I love dogs but this proves that it isn't the dog, it's the idiot owner. Er, it's the owner.

Thanks for the update, I hope this is the fix she has wanted all these years.

After a local girls face was severely mauled by a dog, I carry a weapon when I leave the house on foot.

That was the second attack that year in our area. The other was a challenged man on a bicycle who was attacked and pretty well chewed up. After all was said and done the dog was given back to the owner. And this wasn't the first time that it had attacked somebody, just the first time the person attacked hadn't been able to fight it off. There was a minor uproar about the dog not being destroyed. The story I heard was that a few weeks later a relative of the victim knocked on the owner's door and asked him if that was the dog involved in the attack. When the owner said yes the man retrieved a shotgun from his truck and shot the dog where it was chained up. In front of the dog's owner. Of course with the shooter standing there with a shotgun the owner didn't object.

Should have killed the owner while he was at it...

The only difference between your thinking and mine is that you actually posted it.

I survived a german Shepard attack as a 7 year old little boy walking along my country road with my fishing pole.
The owner of the dog’s daughter was riding her horse nearby and was able to pull the dog away. Then the parents came. If they hadn’t, I would have probably died. 75 stitches to the face/neck, arm & ankle.
My brother told me my mom begged my dad to stop as he loaded his gun and left for the neighbors house to shoot the dog. It worked. The dog was spared, but it attacked another dog and a tow truck driver who came to get their car started.
He got 88 stitches. Finally the dog was put to sleep.

This type of story pisses me off. Some people shouldn't have dogs.

The 2 yo daughter of a former acquaintance was bit in the face by a family dog a while back. She was alone in the room with two dogs so they didn't know which one bit her, so they didn't do anything. I saw her a couple of weeks later with teeth marks all around her nose, she's lucky she didn't lose an eye. I started rasing a stink but was told it's none of my business
I wanted to go to their house with a steak wrapped around one arm and my .357 in the other hand.

If I remember correctly this is what caused a local official to get voted out of office. He was the one that let the animal go back to the owner. Been five years so my memories are a little fuzzy but I know there was a lot of talk about it.

There are lots of people walking down our country sub-division road all the time. One young lady with a baby in a stroller was attacked by a neighbor's dog. The baby started crying and the dog was going after it. The mother stayed between the dog and the stroller but couldn't get away for defending. I was sitting in the yard of my friend across the road and we ran out and tried to stomp the little dog. When we did this the mother and baby got away. I found out a few years after that happened that the dog had disappeared with no trace. I had nothing to do with it but the friend across the road had two teenage sons living at home at the time and the dog may have been dropped out of a pickup truck doing 80mph down the local Interstate. And they are very much dog lovers, just could not stand that one dog.

I know that you had nothing to do with it but this isn't right. It's not the dog's fault it had idiots for owners. A humane, well placed bullet is one thing but they don't know this was a quick death.
I saw a 1/4 grown kitten on the side of the interstate Saturday that likely suffered the same fate.

That was years ago and I think the story was that they were going to drop the dog off near someplace it would have been welcome but it bit one of the boys several times in the car. So out the window it went. I think that one had bit several people in the neighborhood and enough was enough.
