The 2620 has a rated PTO of about 20hp, while the 4020's is about 35hp. Assuming they are the same strength wise, you are still over powering it. As far as I know when people turn up the power on the 25/26 series, they keep it at 10hp increase or less.
The PTO power is 4 to 5hp less than engine horsepower due to parasitic drag. Same gearbox as the 4020.

Everything I've watched, is turn the screw up, then back it down till black smoke stops at full throttle, no load. Not very scientific. Is smoke an accurate measurement?
I also advanced injection timing by 6 deg. If you would like I can give that procedure.

That screw only effects the maximum amount of fuel that is allowed to be injected. These diesels are set up quite lean and more fuel can generate more power at the same rpm. The engines governor and the min - max stops are what control the rpm.
Not exactly. It governs the max fuel that can be injected under load not max rpm. RPM is set by the governing spring.

Based on what I've seen, 35hp engine and like 28 pto is kinda the sweet spot; but I am following. Noone online that I've seen, has more than "feels like" power info on the turn up. I'm really considering the process, but will admit Id prefer to not void warranty.
I knew I was voiding my warranty but when was the last time you heard of a engine failure on one of these things?

If it blows a poof of black smoke under load it's set perfect. That's what diesels do.

I do believe that is about what I said;

The idle speed is set by a screw that limits the fuel rack, the high speed max is set by a bolt on the governor speed plate.

I will agree that just a trace of smoke under a heavy load is a good "tune".

If you do the math the PTO power is always about 22% less than engine horsepower. Directly proportional. Same gearbox.
And you said you think it's at 40hp at the PTO, which is more than the 35hp the 4020 normally has, all I'm pointing out. I haven't looked up the parts, so don't know if it has the same gears and shafts as the 2620.

Forgive my ignorance, but with a carburetor gas engine, you set an idle screw and a fuel screw. On a this engine, it's just one screw; so for an ignorant guy like me, does that affect starting or idle speed or anything line that?
Its not ignorance at all. Just think as a diesel engine as just the opposite of a gas engine.

A gas engine limits power by the amount of air that it receives ie. (the throttle valve, butterfly valve).

A diesel engine limits power by the amount of fuel it receives (fuel injection pump). Open intake track all the way from the air cleaner to the intake valve.

Also the leaner a gas engine runs the hotter the combustion is. With a diesel engine the richer it runs the hotter the combustion is. Heat =power. Clear as mud. Lol

The CK4010 and CK4020 is 39.6 engine HP and 34.9 PTO hp. Which if I made 40 PTO hp on my CK2620 (my target) that would put my engine at 44.35. Very obtainable for a 100.5 ci 1.65L engine. The 4010 and 4020 is a 111.5ci 1.8L engine that has a lot left in it too.

Heck, the Kukje A1700 engine from Branson, now TYM, covers all the way from 25hp up to 48HP. Albeit, the 40 and 45 hp got the help of a turbo, probably to help cleary some of the smoke.

I see no reason why the Kioti engine wouldn't be able to do the same. The rest of the tractor doesn't concern me at all. They built the tractors to handle a range of HP, so we know that it's good for at least the highest HP model offered, probably more actually.

Also, I didn't research that but wouldn't surprised me if this Kioti engine would be tuned to higher HP on markets where emissions aren't required above 25hp.

I'm really interested to see the dyno results whenever you get into that.
