- David brown 1210
I recently got an old David Brown 1210 as a barn find. Hadn’t been used in 20ish years. Did some basics to it and got it home. Clutch was working fine. The next day, I went to move it closer to the shop so I could do further maintenance before actually using it.
I put it in 1st and started to the shop. Heard a loud clunk so I pressed on the clutch to stop and see what was wrong…clutch pedal went straight down. And tractor still chugging along. Had to just kill the fuel to get it to stop. Haven’t had any luck finding a mobile mechanic.
Yesterday I went out and got it knocked into neutral and started it up. Just for giggles, I knocked it into 1st and it started off. Knocked it back into neutral and it rolled to a stop. Did same for reverse. Put it back into 1st and got it down to the shop and then had to kill the fuel since I couldn’t get it back into neutral. (All these gear changes were done without use of the clutch).
So with all that said, what may be the problem with the clutch? Simple things I could check or best get a mechanic or old farmer neighbor to come by? It’s a diesel if that makes a difference.
