I got the SMV sign installed and forgot to take pictures. (Didn't have my phone on me.) Also road tested it by cutting the front lawn.
Barometer falling and the 70% chance of rain is fast going to become 100%. Storm is over Georgian Bay now. The map loads slow.

Good Afternoon,
Paul framing looks to be coming along nicely !
I’ve always stood exterior walls with sheathing attached, but watch some YouTube videos that don’t.
Dennis, when we built our barn in Vt we sheathed the walls on the ground. Of course I needed a bunch of guys to stand them up, which as I recall cost me quite a bit of beer ! 😂

Did a little more contouring on one of the rocker seats today. I still have a ways to go but it’s starting to take shape. I placed it on a 5 gal bucket and sat on it for feel, not too bad so far ! I will probably bring them back up to Vt when we go on Thursday! Maybe can get a little done on them then!

here's a pic of one of mine, look at right back corner. it's built exactly where it will go, with the bottom plate on the line and toenailed on top to the floor, which acts like a hinge so when you stand it, it doesn't slide, and the nail pulls out of the floor as it gets stood up. have a 2x4 already on the side for a brace. My wife and I built and stood all of the walls. Square each wall section by pulling diagonals before you sheath it. No beer on my job. Now with my neighbors house, I don't know how his buddies roofing it didnt fall off as much as they drank. lol

I’ve done walls both ways, but tend to sheath on the ground. When we built the cottage that seemed the logical method given that it was post and pier construction. Boy, Hardie panel sheathed walls are heavy and Sophie doesn’t let me forget. Fortunately we had 2 other helpers.
The last ones I did, I raised with the FEL.

If I do build the cabin in VA myself, I will frame the walls here without sheathing, and trailer them down and stand them. Will be easier to handle and move non sheathed panels, plus I don't want lots of wood sitting around there that can walk..

When I was in grammar school my parents bought a lot on a lake about hour from house. During the week Dad would precut the cottage based on a 4x8 design and weekends take pickup loaded to site and we would put together.

safe and somewhat sane in Fairfield Inn in Washington NC.
once again got lost in Roanoke taking wrong turn because while I want to
go south west, the road is labeled East. So instead of major roads, I just drove through main street of about six towns but at least no traffic on back roads. And plenty of places to safely pass when you need to.
a/c working fine in room, going to try to rest a little before heading out.

David/Sodamo, glad you got a code to work with, hopefully a good clue

Good Afternoon David,
Well we sheathed the walls on the ground with T-111, then a few years later I put up the Hardie siding on the south side of the barn because the T-111 was taking a beating. Obviously working off of a ladder is much more work !

What a day. Made to the low 80's and cloudy today.

Had a storm roll through this morning. That sky was mean, half my county had impassable roads due to powerlines and trees down....and I guess parts of houses. I'm sure we will be out of power for a while.

Only about 150k houses were out of power, not bad considering MI aging infrastructure.

Had a Lightning strike in the back yard, barely missed one of my trucks. Wife said it was "bright" and she could smell it.

Now I gotta do clean up at the property. Gotta get the road open one of these days.

Installed new dishwasher door spring. Wasn’t exactly the same but close. Little plastic bushing missing, so not sure how long it will last metal on metal.
Later looked up proper spring, $22 and $12 for the bushing. I got 2 pack of springs, so have a spare. The old spring had broke before, so I just took 1 coil and bent a new hook. It lasted several years. Other side still original.
It was rubbing so pulled it out again and hooked from back side, much better.

Debating hardie panels vs the overlap boards.

One disadvantage of doing that way is that you are usually better off racking the walls in place to compensate for any errors with the deck or foundation.
