The reason I say mixed is because without its often used against you.

I have to laugh...

College education really means jack squat in the real world, but when dealing with company guidelines or HR, it can mean a world of difference.

I have a college degree. Don't use it AT ALL in my field, but without it, I wouldn't have gotten to where I'm at.

My direct supervisor to this day doesn't believe I have a BS degree. I think after he and the CFO of our company had dinner and we talked about the CFO's daughter going to school where I graduated, he finally might believe me.
End of the day, my degree doesn't do jack for my paycheck. Lucky enough, I graduated in the 80's and back then a college degree didn't cost an arm and a leg, so I got it paid off pretty quick.

That said, if you're a MD, guess you have to have a medical degree, but that really doesn't mean you're good at it. No different than a dishwasher really...

It was an honor to be a Flag Boy grades 6, 7 and 8.

I don’t know what they do in schools today except the mere display of the American flag in local schools is deemed provocative but not for the Mexican flag?

I fly the flag and last Memorial Day had the only flag in the neighborhood and have been asked several times if I was taking a risk displaying the flag…

Growing up not a home anywhere did not have a flag on Memorial Day…

Surgery has a lot in common with working in a machine tool and die shop…

You have your highly skilled with a support team in an environment providing necessary tools and environment.

We still use tables and carts to breakdown, modify and assemble…

Biggest difference is drugs used.

It does strike me as strange the presence of an American flag on an American campus can be considered insensitive or even hostile yet celebrating other cultures with abandon is encouraged.

Maybe because I’m from a time when when my elders were almost all veterans…

Always learning here and it has been tweaked with Congress adding Under God which is also referenced on US coin and currency.

After the pledge we would sing one of several songs… America the Beatiful or This Land is Your Land or the Star Spangled Banner, etc.

The open hand salute is found in many places around the world.

Plenty of unhinged people in the world…

Any doubts just revisit pandemic policies.

I’m mixed on college…

Maybe because I was always working and not a part of campus life?

The reason I say mixed is because without its often used against you.

As far as making your way plenty with zero college and a solid trade or entrepreneurial acumen continue to real well.

Too often those with college are too full of themselves…

Little respect for labor as if your college degree is going to get your HVAC installed or clear the roots from sewer line.

Some of the worst chiselers I have ever met hail from the University Professor ranks…

There is only one primary reason people should attend college: to pursue a field of study in a career that they care about. If someone wants to learn HVAC and go to trade school or work as an apprentice, they should do that. If they are interested in being a civil engineer, they should attend college. There’s lots of jobs out there in many fields.

But is there forgiveness of student loans for trade school?

None of the high schools in my district offer shop or auto anymore citing liability…

It’s a shame because some students really excelled in shop… showing they too had a place at the table.

Point being we all look at the past as being "better times", but in reality society in general has always been F'ed up as it now throughout the history of man.

People had a cow when the words "under God" was under threat of being removed from the pledge, when in fact those words weren't added in until the 1950's because of Communism.

The irony is is the author of the Pledge was by all accounts a socialist who wrote in part to help promote flag sales for a magazine.
