mini welding table

I made this rig pretty fast, and I am very happy with it.

It's a sold vice stand, that also holds a welding table.

I have some smaller clamp on vices to use on the welding table as needed.

I also added some steel casters to lean it back on, so I can move it around easier. And, it takes up very little space.

This is my weld table, measures 26x28 inches and 1/4 inch thick because that was what $20 got me..... Vise is mounted with two bolts and so far I have never had a need to remove it....

I have nearly no work space, so for a small welding table, was dreaming of building a small one, with the top 20" x 20 x 5/8 plate and mount in on a spit truck rim as its base.

Also put a 6" vice on it to hold steel to be welded.

If you really mean small, and limited space where you are -

I mounted a vise alone on a HF grinder pedestal (subsequent to the photo below). Free-standing, this accommodates weird shapes.

My 'welding table' was welded up from five scrap TV wall mounts to make a 12 x 36 work surface. There were already many slotted holes, handy to clamp material down. The base is a small tractor rim.

I sometimes bring the vise on its pedestal over to near the work table, for long objects. Each weighs under 50 lbs, so easy to move around.

After using these for a few years now, I haven't found a need for anything more elaborate.

Those are great. I have a similar leg vise, barely visible behind the work light in my photo above.

It has C [Columbia], on a horizontal cast web behind the fixed jaw, where it is bolted down to the workbench. But somebody cut the leg off below the hinge.

And down at the far end of the workbench there is a barely-visible classic red Craftsman 6 inch vise.

Dad's social life was buying yard sale 'treasures'. Now with four mounted vises, I haven't found a use for the 50 lb monster vise or one other vise, that I discovered in the barn 'miscellaneous' jumble after Dad passed.

Another option is to drill the tabletop to match the mounting holes in the vice and weld nuts to the bottom of the tabletop. Would be okay for occasional use, but if you're constantly taking the vise on and off a faster mounting system would be nicer. The only thing about using receiver tube is that adds a lot of weight.

Drill and tap the table top and use a cordless impact for the fasteners.

Is vise is better than most for positioning, have another axis to move parts around in.

One problem with bolting a vice to a welding tabletop like I suggested is weld spatter may (will?) find its way into threads left open.

Also takes to long to get your vice on and off. I'm putting it on a 2" square tube receiver type base.
