computer question
any reason not to update to Windows 11?

The computer that I replaced after my lightning strike came with Win 11 pro, I have had no complaints or problems with it. I have Win XP, 7Pro and 10 on various computers, and they all play well together. The older OS’s are due to specific software that runs on them not being supported by the newer OS’s.

Good Morning
It’s 66 and grey outside, low overcast, but not foggy. High of 75 and some partial clearing for today, chance of rain and showers later on.

Yesterday was another nice day. I spent most of it in the shop, made pretty good progress on the speakers, cleaned up a lot of sawdust.

Took a ride to the AT&T store while glue was curing, I bought an iPhone 15pro with 512gb of storage. The camera is spectacular, far better than my Olympus digital SLR, but most importantly it’s always in my pocket. I have long said that the best camera in the world is the one that you have with you. Doesn’t matter what the one at home in the closet can do when that Kodak moment happens in front of you.
Of course they didn’t have one in stock, but surprisingly UPS says it’s on the truck for delivery to me today. Hopefully it will arrive before I have to leave for today’s trip.
Finished the day with a meeting at the RC club field. One of the members brought a crockpot with some really good pot roast stew which I had for dinner. Meeting was good, they are usually efficient and business like rather than endlessly wading through minutiae like some meetings. Got the trash and recycling down to the street when I got home, and called it a day.

Today will start in the shop, hopefully I’ll get the back fitted and glued up on the larger speaker, now that the bracing is all complete. I’ve only got until 11 until I have to get cleaned up and head out to the airport. I’m going to drop a crew off in Newburgh, NY to pick up a plane from the Citation Service Center, then head out to Ohio to pick up the people we left there on Wednesday. No music tonight, I was concerned about rushing to make it back. That takes away some of the fun, now I can have a nice leisurely dinner and tinker with the new phone that homely arrived in my absence. Looks likely that we will get together tomorrow night instead.

I have no idea how I ever found the time to work every day, my days are just about always full, but I always look forward to tomorrow..

computer question
any reason not to update to Windows 11? I'm tired of being harassed by Microsoft to update.
I use Microsoft home and of course they charge me for it annually. Everyone wants to charge
you a fee...
Windows 11 is a good operating system. One reason people may not want upgrade to it is that is will verify and check the license on each and every program. If you have unlicensed programs on the PC it will block their use. This is the case for my old shop computer so it remains on Win 7, and my wife's PC remains on Win 10.
My new PC is Win 11 and while there is a little learning curve it works well but I pay rent for things like Microsoft Office 365 which is free on the older machines.

You are getting charged annually for windows? I’ve not seen that. Sure that’s not office 365 you getting charged for? Which I also refuse to buy . I buy the regular version of office, the home version . I’m sick of the advertising Microsoft puts on the login screen.

Good Morning. 56º going to 95º. A 40 degree temperature swing same as yesterday. Sweats to shorts today.
The pump guy is coming to change the well storage tank today. The old poly tank developed a split near the bottom. It lasted 22 years.
I've spent a bit of time fighting off the meat bees which found the water leak so that the guys could work this AM.
If you ever need to discourage bees from a water source just add dish soap.

I plan to repair the old tank and use it for fire fighting storage. It has a FD connection which the new tank does not. The 2 tanks will be connect so there will be about 7k gallons in case of a fire, which is an annual threat here. Some years worse than others. Not too bad for us this year but it is wise to be ready.
I hope everybody has a good day and a great weekend.

Good Morning Guys,
Ct, 61 to start going to 70. Some chance of a shower during the day but rain likely tmrw ! Came back to Ct yesterday and got the grass cut, also dug up the opening to the septic tank cover for a pump out today !

Dennis nice work on the pad next to the shed ! The way your backing your trailer onto that side of the shed looks to be a bit difficult being on the passenger side ! I’m sure you know that already !

David, sorry to hear about your electrical issues !

Drew, how hard is it to remove the toilet to gain visual access to the back ? Is that worth doing to get to the problem area ?

Phil, thanks for the explanation on the snowmen ! 🙏

Hope everyone has a safe and blessed day ! 🙏

I just haven't bothered to "upgrade" windows, I was not aware of that so called feature. But it is just another reason not to. By unlicensed programs are you referring to microsoft crap or any other multitude of programs.
I use Open Office for my "office" type software. free and works well.

Good Morning PopG,
Kind of curious as to why no fasteners during speaker construction ! Is that due to electrical fields being affected by the metal screws ?

Also curious as to what glue you use ? My favorite is the Titebond 2, although I have used some full waterproof fly’s for various projects !

Morning all, 67 going to 77.
Too tired to do any work in the basement yesterday.

Off to see Seinfeld for wifes birthday tonight in Philly. Her birthday is next month.

Looks like battery survived failed charger, so that's good. Charger under warranty, but don't think I would trust a replacement.

My son got his permit and I gave him an overview on the truck, under hood and dash layout and let him drive it for a bit on our shared road. He did pretty well, very happy so far, but his awareness of what is around him will need to be built up.

Drew - As long as the machine is pretty recent and supports win11 most of the early issues are worked out. Moved all of our machines over and now at work running a project to move the many thousands over, so far Win11 has not caused issues with anything except a few ancient apps that are more custom for our business.

I need to try and move up my dr visits, not sleeping and having trouble eating. Can't have any fat, sugar or alcohol. even with limited diet in a lot of pain.

be well,

Good morning, the low is 58 and the high to 63°F. It was raining, but has stopped for now.

I've got the honey wagon coming today to pump out the septic tank. I get it done every year in the fall.
Funny, my Dad built our house (1952) out in the country, the septic tank was about 25' from the house and then the manifold and 7 stringers, he got it pumped once in 17 years. I have 3 stringers on my weeping bed and this house was built in the '80s. I am in a different part of the Province, too. That might have some bearing on it. I am on the southern edge of the Canadian Shield, where the house that was built in 1952 was on the north shore of lake Ontario, 21 miles east of Toronto. I am about 160 miles north.

A plumber is also coming today to redesign the kitchen sink drain. I am tired of it plugging up. Plugged up now and has been all summer. Junior told me that he tried all summer to get a plumber to come out and no joy. I made 4 phone calls yesterday and a plumber is arriving here at 9. He may end up stringing a whole new line, with no 90° corners but I don't care as long as the sink drains.
He asked the usual questions on the phone;
Crawl space? Nope, full basement.
Lines hiding behind wall board or ceiling tiles? Nope, fully exposed.
Corners in the line? Yup one 90°.

30 years ago if I had this problem I would have cut the 90 out of the line and put in two 45s. My shoulders being in the shape they are in now, I will hire it out. I can't hold my arms over my head for more than about 3 minutes. I will let you know what it cost me
after it is done.

Yup I know, 78 years old, my joints are falling apart and I am too stubborn to do anything about it.

Just got the call, the plumber is about 2 minutes out.

Have a safe day all
