ferguson 65 and 35 delco 2 post alternator testing and wiring questions

I have a 65 diesel with a 2 post delco alternator or generator 1100501. It's pretty shot.
I have a 2 post delco alternator or generator 1100998 I believe came from a 35 gas. I dont see any reason this wont work in place of the other one. It fits, but it doesn't seem to work either.
Both have 2 posts marked A and F. That's the only posts they have.

All my questions are concerning the 1100998 which is going in the mf 65.

First question is does it need to be polorized or should it just work, and if it does need to be polorized what needs hooked to pos and what needs hooked to neg. Tractor is neg ground.

Regarding testing. I've tried checking the voltage with the regulator disconnected. I've tried A to F, A to ground, and F to ground, and I'm getting nothing. Should I be getting a reading with any of these configurations?

Once it's working and I'm ready to hook it up, I believe its A to Gen, F to F and bat on the regulator to the pos battery post. Is this correct or should bat go to a switch and then to the battery?

And I'm not sure about the regulator. The one on the tractor is from the 1100501 so I'm not sure if it's ok with the 1100998?
I'm also not sure if the regulator is any good. If I need a new one, what do I replace it with? When I look for one I see a lot that look the same but say they're for different alternators. Haven't actually found one for this alternator.

Ditch the generator and regulator and replace it with "generic" one wire alternator.... MAybe a modification of mounting bracket and a little fiddling with wiring and you should be good to go....

I'm a big fan of the one wire alternators. I usually throw them on everything, but there's no room for one on this tractor. There's not much space between the motor and frame where the alternator fits. Even with this smaller alternator, there's very little space to tighten the belt. So, I'm pretty much stuck with getting this one working unless there's a smaller one wire that I'm not familiar with. I always use the old chevy ones that they used in pickups.
