It’s too hot to mow.

It's never too hot to mow, but unless things are well irrigated, there is, "it's too dry to mow." More than one wildfire has been sparked by the spinning blade of a rotary mower sparking against a rock.
I take the mower off the tractor in June and won't use it again until after a good soaking rain.
That our situation right now too. A new brush fire starts around here every day and sometime 2 or 3 ! CDF is awesome about attacking these fires with everything they got that means hand crews hiking in under blazing 100 degree temps and lots of air drops of water and Phos-Chek. One or 2 got big = 5-8k acres. HUGE fire burning at the CA/NV border... approaching 100k acres of brush.
No mowing until it rains

Both 64 year old me and my 88 year old Dad appreciate the AC! That is Dad in the photos.

I’ve been whittling down the bush hogging two to three hours a day during this hot weather. Perk of being retired. Can’t cool off much if every stitch you are wearing is wet with sweat. Get hot, get dumb, get dead. Using a Brown tree cutter this year to mow the tall summer/fall weeds as an experiment. Taking time to clear some of the encroachment of trees is a slow and more physically demanding process but highly productive.

Break in weather, a cool front , low humidity with low 80s temp. My wife mowed with B26 with rear finish mower and I with tree cutter for 7 hours. Both stiff, flushed, buggy, hobbling around afterwards. After we shower wife said we are going to eat Mexican. Good food and drank margaritas till we were silly and felt better. Good night’s rest with rain moving in. Next morning drinking coffee on the back deck admiring and smelling the the fresh cut yards and orchard glistening after being rain washed a satisfying monument. Few get to enjoy doing this. Will not be long till we get to do all again.

Never underestimate the healing power of margaritas.

Lol. 😁

Grass here in So. Ohio is getting crunchy these days. Mowers gathering dust, not a bad thing actually. Pretty hard on the farmers though.

At 10:00 am on Saturday August 5, 2023 the heat index is already at 105. The dew point is at 78. I went try to piddle around my shop and got soaked with sweat within a few minutes.
I’ve lived and worked outside in this climate for all of my 63 years, but I just can’t take it anymore.
This summer is by far the hottest on record for my area.

I keep seeing reports that historically, it's been a lot hotter than now. I think it's just different when you are 67 and when you are 6 or 7.

I got heat stoke after 15 yrs of work in the desert sun.
Now I moved to a milder climate and almost 20 yrs after the stroke I still can't take the heat like before.
They say the effects are life long. SO yeah - I love our cool winters.

I agree with you that it has probably been hotter, but the link below shows that we have had 4 of the hottest average temp July’s in the past few years with this year being the hottest since 1893.
I also agree that it is different as we age.
