Why do you think they gave it to him?
Is there any market for a log like that? I have a similar diameter Acacia log, 12 ft long, to get rid of. If I put it on Craigslist, "Free log for your sawmill!" - would anyone respond? Doesn't seem likely but with CL anything can happen. ?

Around here someone would take it for firewood. I would. I got several loads of logs a few weeks ago for firewood. Free wood is always good. He loaded it with his tractor and I unloaded it with mine. Well some I dumped on the ground with my trailer and stacked with my tractor.

Some of those look like they may have been logs when they were green; also before they were cut up. Now you are putting them to their best use.

How big is it, and how many knots? Also, is it relatively straight and how long ago was it cut?

Eyeball estimate, about 12 ft x 30 inch diameter. No major knots, a few at 1 inch. Straight.

This fell across my entrance on January 7. The neighbor who contracts to operate my apple orchard cut up and shredded most of the debris until he got to the point where he didn't have a chainsaw long enough to take another slice off it.

A photo the day after it fell. All that remains today is the log. My little Yanmars can lift the lighter end of it but I couldn't set it on a trailer, it would have to be winched on.

I was curious if this variety, Acacia, would be considered an exotic for veneer, inlay, or something. There are a few hobby sawmills around here.

There might be some interest from a local wood turners association. They will probably want it for free, but you can probably get a little bit for it especially if that type of wood is not normally available. They will be more interested in crotches and other anomalies that add "character". You can search for a contact with the local wood turners via this site which I've already selected California for you.

California wood turners

Edit: Well, pre-selecting California didn't stick, but it's easy enough to do.

That located a group 8 miles down the road and another 40 minutes from here.

I'll offer it to them. Free is fine, I just need it out of here.

Thank you!
That's pretty decent of you. I hate seeing something getting composted or burned for firewood if it has a higher, better value.

They would demand you deliver it and get butt hurt when you say "Nope". First person to haul it out of her gets it !!!!!

Yeah Craigslist brings all the loons out to play. Leftover vinyl siding and a 'treasured bicycle' were offered as exchange for a tractor I listed.

Last week I put an antique solid oak end-table at the curb at our home in town, with a Free sign on it. No interest. Next day I put it on CL, free. Just when my one caller came to pick it up, some lady from a few blocks over said she had noticed it earlier and wanted it now. Sorry lady, its promised to this guy arriving now, precisely noon, just as he said. She was PO'd. Can't please everyone!

List on CL ... expect comedy.

Not just Craigslist. I read on article on a news app where some lady posted a free bed on Facebook market place. First person to haul it off gets it.

She then got trolled by some a$$hat who was demanding she deliver the free bed to them.

We used to just place old furniture out on the curb. You look out later, you would see a couple neighbors kids hauling it off down the street.

If it was junk, they would return it

I have an Acacia table in my gazebo that I bought in Thailand. They make great furniture and can take weather.

Oh, for sure there are jackwads out there that want to 'police' others. 100% seen a bunch of them over the decades. But more often than not the folks I encounter acting like this are just oblivious yahoos.

And your solution in that case was spot on. People like that should have their license revoked.

I just pass them when safe to do so, want to drive under speed for no obvious reason they should expect it.

Too often they speed up when you could safely pass them; whether because they feel comfortable doing so, or because they just want to be jerks.
It's illegal in many if not most states to speed up when somebody is trying to pass you, yet rather difficult to enforce.

Pet peeve and running at or below speed limit hit a passing lane suddenly there in the Daytona 500. If I'm lucky they will bother them selves to move into the left lane That's when I wish I was a dumb kid opening up 6.6 ltrs of turbo diesel frustratingly wishing my Duramax was modified to "burn/roll coal" lol
That is a too common occurrence, and would be a good place for an LEO to set up with radar.
Yet what is equally frustrating is when you hold a steady speed all of the way up the hill while in the right lane... yet somebody waits until it's are merging back into one lane, then comes flying up to pass you.
I almost wrecked last weekend, I waited for him to pass several times before we got to the hill, but he didn't. I held it right at 60 the full length of the hill, he stayed about 6 car lengths back. He was still there when the lane ended so I started to merge... only to find him next to my rear tire. I had to lock the brakes to let him by, as there was an oncoming car.

I offered a couple free things on Craigslist and one guy came out to pick up a pile of long cutoff hardwood strips from a cabinet shop. He was a college prof if it matters.

He was late so wasted my time there, left assorted zip ties in my yard along with some trash and never said than you.

I too have had people ask me to deliver things for them. I think they catch my drift when I chuckle out loud.

Once I did deliver something when the guy offered me $15 delivery on an overpriced $75 TV. He said he had no transportation since his wife recently left and "took everything" except a stool. Fat chance, I thought.
He sounded OK so I agreed and when I got to his trailer, it was 100% empty, including the drapes and all he had was the stool. He said he could watch TV that way. 🤷‍♂️
