The bottle says "treats up to 100 gallons". And "shelf life of 12 - 18 months".

But I burn about 20 gallons of diesel a year. So now I have 3 expired bottles of fuel additive on the shelf.

What do you do with your old additive?

Depends on what brand actually and if you keep the lid on tightly. Myself, I use Archoil diesel fuel additive and it says nothing about shelf life on the bottle.

The newest bottle with a shelf life is Power Service white bottle. It also says that the bottle will leak any unused fluid after opening the lid.

Strange in as much as I have a couple bottles of that on the shelf in the shop and none have ever leaked.

Just went out and looked at them and nowhere is there anything on the bottles that state that either. Must be some special elixir you have....

Shake the bottle each time before mixing/using it. Continue using until you’ve used it all up…

Use your tractor more. :ROFLMAO:

I went out and looked at my white and silver bottles (80oz) of power service and neither one had it either. As far as the leaking, I bet they are talking about the foil under the cap. Once you tear that, it may leak if you store the bottle on its side.

I would bet that mixed with Ed's Red, it would make great penetrating oil.
THAT is about all I would use it for,,,

Drop down to the 3rd section titled HANDLING PRECAUTIONS

Still smells the same, and still seems to work.
Have 2 bottles left.

This screen shot is from Power Service website

But you were correct, it isn't on the bottle.

I bought a case of the white and the silver in 2020 when I got the tractor. I figure with my tractor use I have enough to last the rest of my life.

To the OP, I would use it. It's not going to go bad. Just don't lay the bottle on its side or store near an open flame.

Some people read way to much into the fine print.

I was in the military as a field medic in the Gulf War. All our medicines and IV meds also were expired by many years. Use the additive.

I dunno... heck we`re still using fuel additives that i bought back when we got our tractor brand new in 2017, and we have had zero gel issues in the cold NE.

Maybe just for peace of mind, i`ll throw it all out and buy some fresh additives over this summer.

As for getting rid of the old stuff, i`ll probably just dump in my used oil collection tank.

That's a good idea, but I have to ask...

Is the diesel additive safe to burn in a furnace?

I give my used oil to someone that burns it in their shop-building furnace.
