Good (Sunday) morning... maybe I'm the one who's screwing up Buckeye's "what day of the week is it?" Anyway, the overnight Low was 19.5C and it's presently 23.8C, clear and calm but the wind is supposed to 'get up' this arvo (which is what the 'Guessers' said would happen yesterday, but didn't). There was 1mm of rain in the gauge at 0730.

Chain-harrow/mulching of Paddocks 3 & 4 accomplished and tractor prepared/fuelled for todays post-Church activities.

That's about it, take care all.

Good Day Everyone

Still lots of planning and decisions happening here - one step at a time. I will be glad to be on the other side of this difficult journey, but I need to get through it, I need to Trust God, Wait, and Pray. Some financial planning already in the works with banks (and a meeting with Financial Planner on Monday), Counselling appt on Wednesday.

We've had ICE everywhere for a month. Slows the efforts down. At least the temperatures are reasonable at this point - hovering at freezing, so almost t-shirt weather now. Back to the shorts an no socks shortly again.

Truck is back and running okay. Some caliper issue perhaps still. But I am loading it up with garbage for a dump run on Monday.

I asked my friend if he could / would make me a sign similar to the one in the thumbnail. I think that would be great by the driveway. Perhaps I'll trade it for doing his taxes this year :)

off to feed the critters shortly, then have a steak dinner and watch the hockey game - Vancouver and Florida

'The Danish military on Greenland have active dog sled teams patrolling the coast line at all times."

Pretty interesting. I read that they use old bolt action rifles because they work in that environment and that they had to go with more powerful sidearms because polar bears can be pesky.

Chris
The weapons carried also reflect the harsh conditions. Among the equipment used by the Sirius Sledge Patrol is the M1917 Enfield bolt-action rifle chambered in .30-06 Springfield, known in Danish service as the Gevær M/53 (17), and the Glock 20 pistol chambered in 10mm Auto.

The reason for changing their sidearm is their previous Pistol M/49 sidearms chambered in 9×19mm Parabellumproved insufficient against the polar bears encountered.[12]

"The weapons carried also reflect the harsh conditions. Only bolt-action rifles (M17/M53) performs reliably. The standard SIG210 Neuhausen sidearm was recently replaced by the 10mm Glock 20, as the stopping power of multiple 9mm rounds proved to be insufficient against a polar bear."[13]
The Sirius Patrol uses the standard .30-06 168-grain military round and also civilian hollow-points. The patrolmen feel that the full metal jacket bullet on the military round is best against polar bears at long range but that the hollow-points are better against an enraged musk ox. Typically, the patrolmen arrange their stripper clips so every third round is a hollow-point.

Had a pleasant afternoon up in the woods watching nephew working. I have soft cab for my UTV but it gets quite breezy and cool even though it helps. I had bought one of the chinese diesel heaters and got it mounted and wired up, finished running the heat tubes in the woods today it really helped the temperature in the UTV considerably. Low 20's out and I would guestimate 50 inside.
Had the heater running about 5 hours and didn't use hardly any fuel, not even 1/2 a liter.

Lost key story. Wife and I were flying C172 hone to Roll,MO when encountered snow at SGF airport and landed. Friend pic us up next day, was able to get ride back to plane. Agree, looks like you’d have to replace inverter to be grid tied. As you note, not a very big system, perhaps power a small cabin?

i had a bit of tractor time today.

chicken feed delivery ... emptied out the back of the truck

pulled the utility trailer that was filled with a load of garbage, up the icy driveway to a level spot where it could be unloaded easily into my truck. moved truck beside trailer for content transfer. dump run pending. the back roads are terrible right now, that trailer is too light for these conditions

spent a half hour scraping the driveway with the box blade and tines, to break up the ice - warmer temps at 1-2C will assist with more of the battle against ice

cleared a path through to the back, so that i can get to the chickens more easily.

i am not a fan of winter, but snow on the yard and trees looks nice. snow on the roads, driveways ... not so much nice. Stay Safe everyone

Sunday, 5:16 am EST 1/15/2023.
Poured first cup of coffee. 16° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 36° with mix of sun and clouds. It always amazes me how much of a mess I make in shop when doing small projects. Shop is ready for next project. This last week got me using the 3 new paddle switches on installed on machines. I have owned my metal lathe for over 50 years. On/off switch was on left side just left of spindle. It is still on left. But low and its now a button instead of toggle. Keep reaching to where toggle switch was. I will get it right yet. Just going to take time.
Male Cardinals always like to pose for camera. But no females in sight.

26 going to 46. Clear and star-filled sky.

Had snow flurries off and on most of yesterday while I brought in wheelbarrows of firewood. Ground a little too soft to use the tractor.

Kyle, good to hear from you. Good you are in high spirits and challenged at work.

Met a very nice lady at the trailhead last week named Goldilocks who provides shuttle service for hikers...made final arrangements for her to shuttle me on my next hike from where I'll park (at my destination) back to the starting point. That way I can complete a longer section of trail. I just have to be able to last all the way to where my truck will be waiting. I'll likely do some of the hike in the dark. I might be biting off more than I can chew.

Those numbers are from approximately 30 minutes after initial power up — they should improve further as the system fine-tunes itself and more satellites go up.

DSL is going bye-byes tomorrow!

On the downside, our vintage Saeco coffee machine sprung a leak. I think I fixed it, but somewhere in the disassembly/reassembly process, something went wonky with the water reservoir sensor, and I have to disassemble it again today and fix that problem.

never a dull moment. . .

Oh, I received my monthly SS check on Wednesday, it was $100 LESS than before. It seems that with the COLA adjustment it raised my SS income above a threshold that caused my Medicare deduction to go up about $400 so now I take home less than before the adjustment!!???

Good morning to all! Low of 33°, heading for a high of 53°. Partly sunny, light wind. Strongest gust was 18 mph overnight. Changes com tomorrow, rain, sleet, snow, freezing rain.... should be interesting.

Get well wishes for all those under the weather.

Kilroy, fingers crossed for a successful install of the mast / dish. Be careful!

Rip, the roof looks great.... the BARN itself looks great!

BEF, are you going to finish the drywall in the basement? As many times as we went over placement of outlets for the new house, and put more than we thought would be needed, we could still use a few more strategically placed ones. I'm not going to tear into the drywall to do so......

Drew, neck pain is not fun, as you are well aware. Hope a soak in the hot tub gives some relief.

RNG, sorry to hear about the tire, hopefully not too much involved to get it back on. Sounds like cleanup going good on back porch. Glad you got the blaster fixed up.

Today's agenda will be more of the same.... working on the list. Going to do the outside items first, trying to beat the weather moving in.

Everyone have a great day!
Lift went well!
