Stuck Amazon driver had the car nose down in a ditch with the front plastic bumper fully engaged in the earth. It would have been easy to pull the car back up but, there was a big chance the bumper would have been partially removed doing so. Since it was an Amazon contracted vehicle and a wrecker was on its way I saw no need for us to do anything.

Good morning
It’s 55 and not going to change much throughout the day.

Yesterday was slow paced, meeting at the airport was postponed until today, but not before I was already there. Took wife to hospital for colonoscopy, and picked her up afterwards. Paid attention to Zoe, I forgot how much energy a puppy has. I should have paid more attention when the breeder said that she was “spunky and adventurous”!
Got to see the FAA doctor and have a new medical certificate. The worst part of that ordeal is when they remove the EKG probes from my hairy chest.

I think today will start with breakfast with the professor, then my meeting from yesterday. Not much else planned, I’ve got a prodigious manure pile to deal with, but the ground is an absolute swamp, so it will wait for a freeze.

4:30 am been up for an hour watching the storm blow in. Heavy rain causing local flooding and threatening mud slides. It never rains in California, it pours. We do need the water. :)

   / Good morning!!!! #162,264
Morning all, 52 and some more rain, later in the week back to freezing.
Got the last outlet reattached and down to the last panels before trim, fill and tape.

Have a lot to do outside, but sink into ground when walking :-(

Drew-hope sister does not have any more water issues. Been watching the weather out there, not good. Will also probably mean that Cali will stop all the water reclamation projects again until next drought.

I can't drink most dark/stout beers as they have too much lactose :-(

Buppies-my friend had the big Ohm speakers on his tube amp. I helped him shop for that. The match of amp to speakers was real obvious when we tried out about 10 different amps. I had Electro Voice speakers when in High School, many of those companies disappeared or got bought for the name.

Check - great news on plate. One less thing to annoy her when it rains I hope.

Mostly - have a great trip. People quitting due to mgmt changes and most of managers being "found" in UK. Also our raises were horrible, and this year does not look good. New mgmt came in like a lion and is now in "tail between the legs" mode.

Rip - glad your manager happy with Milkhouse work  Just painted our floor with epoxy paint. Prep is key for that.

Be safe Scootr - My friend in Temecula is complaining daily about the rain, and when it stops, complaining about the dry :)

Be Well,

The Fs have a great sound but very power hungry 4 ohm if I remember 200 watts to get them to come on. The woofer mid range tweeter all one cone and membrane holding the bottom subject to failure which mine did so ornaments right now. I just do not listen to enough music to justify fixing them or trading which ohm has a great program

   / Good morning!!!! #162,266
Kenmbz - Some old men just like to complain. :D Too wet and too dry are seasons here. Temecula is a Mediterranean climate. It doesn't get a whole lot better than this except San Diego which is basically perfect weather year round.
Matters less if you don't have to go anywhere or work in it. Thats what my friend in KY tells me.
Lots of rain means a good wheat crop and plentiful food and water for the abundant wildlife. It also means a big weed abatement season this spring with lots of tractor time.

Good morning! 36˚F North wind, clear skies heading to the mid 60s.

Went to the podiatrist Dr. yesterday and she said I was lucky for my plantar fasciitis to heal so quickly and confirmed the swelling was gone, no more visits required. I bought 2 more insoles to put in the shoes I normally wear and am glad I no longer limp.

Noticed the Barber shop has increased their price this year, second year in a row, now $20.

Getting caught up on little maintenance projects around the house during the "furlough". Trimming hedges, washing garage floor, putting on new windshield wiper blades, etc..

Today I'll detail my truck.

I started a Spanish learning online course/app. I'll see if I can stick to it long enough to learn enough. I have a 8 day streak going. The course/app is called Duolingo. My wife has been doing it for two years and is doing good and is my tutor. You get points for each completed lesson and compete against others at your level. You want your score to stay in the promotion zone to get to the next level. And yes there is a demotion zone line that you need to stay above. Last night I was #2 in my level but Nathaly was closing in. The weekly promotion zone is the top 15 and the demotion zone is below 23rd place.

Good Morning all,
Skies are gray, it's a little foggy, suppose to clear up by the end of the day. Presently 56F after an overnight low of 54, forecast for clearing skies with a high of 58.

Trip to Maine for next week has been canceled until end of Feb.

All this hifi talk has me frustrated I can't find any of my CD's or video tapes after our move. I have found everything else that was in the cabinet where they were kept, but I can't find them. I think todays mission will be to go thru every box and tote that I haven't been thru to find them.

Cupboards are looking a bit empty, time for a grocery store run this morning.

Noticed after the last storm we have another pine tree broken off and leaning into an adjacent tree. This is getting old. This makes the 12th pine tree since last March that has broken and ended up hung up in another tree.

Have a good day all and be safe out there.

I had Electro Voice speakers when in High School, many of those companies disappeared or got bought for the name.

Electro Voice is (sort of) one of the survivors, having been merged with Telex and later acquired by Bosch, but still basically stands on its own. Many brands have been bought up by Harman, which is now owned by Samsung.
Their brands include AKG, AMX, Arcam,Bang & Olufsen Automotive, Becker, BSS Audio, Crown, dbx, DOD Electronics, DigiTech, Harman Kardon, Infinity, JBL, Lexicon, Mark Levinson, Martin, Revel, Soundcraft and Studer.
Many of those are staples in the professional audio world.

In my younger days I was very immersed in the audio world, as a teenager, I built many DynaKit pieces starting with mono tube power amps. Later moving on to factory built McIntosh, and making the transition to solid state with them. I had a 300watt per channel power amp in the early 70’s made by them. The Grateful Dead used racks of them to power their “Wall of Sound”.
But somewhere along the line, the music became more important than the hardware. The lessons learned are not forgotten though.
But to this day, I’d rather listen to great music on my cellphone than mediocre music that flatters my hardware (which is still not shabby).

Ahh, yes, epoxy paint, unfortunate my SO like the look of the original concrete work. It was well done and has aged in the patina look that she is enamored with. LOL.

An interesting find when removing the ceiling light fixtures was that someone had stained the wood ceiling in a dark glossy finish. Unfortunate it has been painted over many times. It must have looked gorgeous though at that stained time.

Good morning, 46 going to 57 or so today hope the ground will dry out some

Don, good for you tackling another language and having wife into that really helps. Remember the Mandarin lessons> that was interesting and difficult but transfer to Taiwan did not happen.
We use our native language as a private one but sometimes get surprised when someone understands what we are talking about

My haircuts are free since wife does them. She learned to do the kids haircut since taking that many kids for haircuts was very disruptive

Ken, sounds like bad management going on in your company. Hope it gets resolved. Always told myself when in that situation nothing last forever and the next project will be better managed.

Scoort, had to tow out the tow truck one time that came to haul out a contractor from our property.

Popg, I had the same experience with Cody. Shelties are very alert to anything going on and will chase anything.

Have an appointment with the AC contractor for the mini split tomorrow. Want it to be good for heating down to low temps. May want to upsize to get more heating capacity.

Today will be a home day for bills and paperwork, laundry and cleanups. Too muddy to to do much outside

An RF guy I worked with was always fiddling with his McIntosh tube amp and tuner and came up with some design improvements. They incorporated his improvements and gave him some free HW.
Would be difficult with digital equipment to do that.

My son now has my brothers old Carver amp and Adcom preamp, driving those little Polks, plenty of headroom :)

Had a lot of fun when I was an electrical engineer, seems so long ago (because it was). The switch from discreet HW to embedded SW kinda turned me off. Though I play with Arduinos and some stuff here and there.

Good Morning - currently 58° going to 68°

We missed out on any bad weather yesterday...

Three weeks ago gas was $2.66 now it has shot back up -- $3.19 now

My haircuts are free also, stand out on deck and cut everything off..

Have a great day everyone.

Mark

Be careful with upsizing. I had 3 AC contractors come and size a mini-split for my shop. One recommended a 12K unit, another a 15K unit and the last an 18k unit. I went with the 15K unit and it is too large. Heats and cools fine, but it doesn't run long enough to control the humidity in the summer. I had to buy a dehumidifier to keep the humidity under control, which negates a good deal of the savings from the mini-splits. In hindsight I should have gone with the 12K units.

Good Morning!!!! 51F @ 6:45AM. Periods of rain. High 54F. Winds SSE at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 100%. Rainfall near an inch. Winds could occasionally gust over 40 mph.
Yesterday's storm dropped about an inch, with another half inch coming down after midnight. The winds peaked around 9 PM, with another bout of 53 MPH. No porch roof to take off this time, and the tarps stayed put on the bead blaster. Sure made a lot of noise. In spite of the dire predictions from the weather guessers, these are more normal Pacific storms I remember from earlier years here. Just maybe a little more wind is all.

Through it all, the Starlink internet has been working just fine, streaming video and handling web browsing with no outages or buffering interruptions. Better than HughesNet ever did. I've even been able to make calls using the cellular phone, something that's only been possible within the past year. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

Lake Oroville is up 45' from December 26 when the first in this series of storms rolled in. But still 183' below the top of the dam.

Still no sun in the 10-day, but Friday looks dry.

Got a little drizzle yesterday morning for the insurance adjustor's visit. She brought along a trainee, and the both of them spent maybe fifteen minutes looking at the damage and snapping pictures before getting into her big pickup truck to start working on their estimate. She said it would take a couple of hours, and she'd leave a copy with me when they left. After two hours she wasn't done, but had another call to make, so off they went with a promise to email the estimate in a day or two.

Meanwhile, I got in touch with a contractor that came recommended by a neighbor, and he'll be here this morning. Makes more sense to me to use a contractor for the repair, as it involves more than just fixing the roof.

It was still drizzling, but not hard enough to keep me from removing a few sheets that were loose on the damaged porch roof. Got those moved to a sheltered location, then stacked an old piece of railroad track and tie on top to make sure it didn't go anywhere. I would liked to have done more, but the wind was picking up and the 13' long pieces were getting hard to hang on to.

Got through last week's mail, finding 20% increases in my auto insurance premium. Typical cheap first year rate, then jack 'em up every year after.

Also watched some YouTube videos on replacing ball joints. It doesn't look like too bad a job if you have the right tools and don't mind getting dirty. My contractor neighbor says he has a press that'll work, so I'm thinking about it. He needs some help with some aluminum brackets, so he'll be over this afternoon after I get back from a grocery run, and I can ask him more questions then.

Hang in there, gang, Friday's comin'!

   / Good morning!!!! #162,276
on replacing balls joints it can sometimes be advantages to get the Aframe with ball joints mounted and save the hassle of replacing the joints.

On Winslow I think we stayed at the same 16 dollar hotel room and we were not able to sleep much because of truck traffic rumbling through there all night

Good morning to all! Low was 24°, going for a high of 42°. Winds were gusty overnight, highest gust was 35 mph. Light breezes now. Tomorrow winds pick back up again. Seems to be the norm .... the leftovers from Cali. All the moisture gets wrung out in the Sierra Nevada mountains, we get the wind.

Successful batch of dog food yesterday. In between cooking and packaging, ran down to the propane supplier and picked up an auto changeover valve and a hose for my son. Apparently his valve will no longer switch over automatically.

The last ball joints that I have done were on my 4 door Jeep. What a ball buster--- pun intended! I have all the tools needed and it was still a royal pain. I swore I will never do ball joints again! Being 4wd made it a bit more difficult. Late model Jeep wranglers are notorious for eating ball joints every 60-70K miles. The most common cause of "death wobble".

I have an appointment at noon, then afterwards don't know if I have any time to get into anything.

Everyone have a great day!

66°F and .09 inches rain.

Changed it up a bit and spent time cleaning up outside the tractor shed, concentrating on the area where my expansion will go. Got several wheel barrows of old wood burned. Today will dismantling my fuel can storage and if wx holds likely power wash the area.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Slow trying to get anything done this morning.
Went out to garage, started going thru a box of old Christmas lights, decided not to continue in garage. Sat with snagglepuss for awhile.
IMG_7468.JPG

Went to basement, got down a box of old bills to go thru. Found some of the old credit card machine receipts for $1 gas in 1990. Found receipt for my bag phone from 1994. Put box back on shelf and been watching YouTube.
New light fixture for above sink comes today. Not motivated to paint. Hard to get started with wife needing to use kitchen sink. Think I’ll just put new light up as is for now, when it comes.
