I still have a trinket made of lava, that my oldest sister gave me one Christmas when she lived in Honolulu. I don’t think she made it home that Christmas.
She moved from Honolulu to Houston TX and i ahave a cowboy belt buckle from there.

some stoves that swing both ways

i believe the politically correct term, considering all appropriate DEIJB factors, would be to
say you have a multi fuel stove. ;);)

Now perhaps the stove door swings both ways.

A door that swings? How offense.

A door that self identifies as operating in the direction of choice…

David, do you have an update on your neighbors Kubota that would not start?
Sounds like a nice gathering. Sort of like expats

Frits, I don’t have any details as I haven’t spoken with neighbor but most likely get the low down next Friday at the neighborhood holiday gathering.

Guessing it wasn’t as severe as expected as he has been using it past week or so, these last few days brushhogging his property adjoining mine, probably at least 12 hours so far, maybe 1/3 done. I believe this is first time it has been cut, maybe first attention other than pasture since sugarcane days. Appears to be much rougher than mine and likely a topic of discussion Friday.

Agree re expats, seems we were in similar situation when we lived in Heidelberg 6 years while in Army. That situation was somewhat more temporary as everyone expected to move on at some point.
Current situation we are all homeowners. For some in the group that even includes when we were actually building those homes. Over the years some have moved away, we actually enjoyed FaceTime with one of the original couples now in Az, Wylee will be 90 this week. And then another couple that linked up with the group while visiting about 5 years ago who just bought a small condo and moved in this month.
Just as the Heidelberg associations shared the common bond of military, this local group couldn’t more diverse. Airline pilot, travel writer, carpenter, military, legal secretary, civil servant, engineer, etc I believe the only duplicate background is the couple who were both pharmacists. Relationships range from just single digits and not married to touching on 50 years together. Years ago something sparked a conversation that touched on racial. Probably 6 or 8 couples at the time and someone observed that every couple was a mixed race/nationality background. We looked at each other somewhat stunned as we hadn’t observed before. Relationships range from 40+ years of one and only marriage to couples sharing up to 6 marriages between them. Kids, no kids, step kids, adopted kids. Excellent cooks, some at least trying, some just make good choices when they buy. Quick count, 6 tractors. Quite the diverse ohana.

Good Morning

I've taken it easy this morning ... prone to another nose bleed, so had to sit / relax.

Checked FB Marketplace and a guy then came by to purchase the men's hockey skates that I had listed. Almost new in the box - worn by my daughter for one Ringette tournament weekend, at the end of her Ringette career. In storage for 7-8 years, and today got full asking price (YAY). They are really nice skates.

then back inside and on the computer.

a bit more snow in the past few days, but the tractor will stay put for now. feeling kinda wiped out

Happy Boxing Day !!! (I did my part and sold a box - yup, skates inside) :)

Thank you for the update. That must be an interesting group with such diverse background and will for sure stimulate a lot of discussions.
We have been to Heidelberg several times and loved it. The story about the wine being piped into the rooms at the castle was fun and the dance floor on top of the wine cask.
Daughter was with US military intelligence in Stuttgart and loved the area. Assume that you were working out of Darmstadt?

Tractor started right up (inside unheated barn), after the block heater was on for an hour. 6 degrees. We got 3" of snow overnight. No wind, so there were no drifts and it was nice to look at this morning. The big sliding door on the barn was frozen shut, after the last week of storming. Once I got that open, I went out and cleared the drive, using the "pusher" blade on the loader and angled 3 point back blade. Worked great.
