My house requires network extenders to extend my wireless to the far corners where I have cameras. A problem arises when I get a power outage, the ISP's network extender (the ISP calls it SAT 1) comes up before the ISP's router, grabs the signal, then I cannot connect to the internet. The only solution the level 1 help desk could offer is to tell me to unplug SAT 1 until after the router is up.
That's fine but a pain when I'm there, but when I'm more than a few miles away it's a non-starter.
So I'd like to find some reliable method of delaying the extender's powerup for a few minutes. Any suggestions?

You're looking for a device that detects line power, waits a set amount of time, then energizes an outlet, correct?

I think it's called an on-delay timer. I haven't seen one that plugs into a 110V wall socket, but that doesn't mean they are not made. I have seen them that plug into socket bases in electrical cabinets. We used them extensively to control things at my last job.

Yup, that sounds like it.
Half of finding things is using the proper search term.
Thanks!

Why no just place a ups on the router?

This would probably work, but kinda pricey, about $70.

It's designed to come on 15 minutes after power is restored, to allow hot greenhouse lights to cool down before they attempt to power up after power is restored.

The router IS on an UPS, but there have been power outages that apparently the UPS drained.
But that might be a solution is to put all of the network equipment on UPS.

Looks good but in further research I found Supply House, which I use frequently, sells a Delay on make timer for < $10.
So I'll say problem solved.

This is what I use at a remote property I have.

Yes, we could build up a box with wires and outlets and such and install that and it would work great.

I don't know your abilities, so I concentrated on a plug and play (pun intended) solution. :)

Show us the box when it's done.

personally you have a network problem, extender's don't "steal" anything. the boot up sequence should not matter at all

I was wondering the same thing. A wifi extender shouldn't prevent the main router from connecting to the internet.

Your use of the word "steal" is the first time in this conversation. ;)

He said "grabs the signal".

Unless all of the devices are permanently hard-coded, boot up sequence will matter, as whoever comes up first might be considered the main router by the ISP.

FWIW...Anytime there is more than one router on the same network...The DHCP servers should be disabled on all but the primary router...this may or may not apply...

Yup
Some users may find that after the power outage or router’s rebooting, even after router’s internet is back and up running, client devices still get IP address from powerline extender, and cannot connect to the internet.
apparently they came out with a patch, which I have not installed yet.

I'm sorry. We do not offer technical support on that model unless all current updates and patches are installed. Please perform the update, and call back again when that is complete. Thank you.
Goodbye.
