Darn, I spent all that time building myths.

Myths are good.

When I was 12 years-old I developed this theory that the whole world was created for no other purpose than to make me miserable. Fortunately I moved on from that stage.

I'm about to believe nothing we see is "real". We are all in nutrient tanks providing energy for aliens who feed on our brain waves.

With a freezing rain carrying winter storm coming in tonight I proactively switched my system to pre-heat. Not that I've ever had to do it, but cleaning snow off the dish would be a lot easier than cleaning ice off of it.

We just got 30" of snowfall and we never lost SL.

This doesn't directly pertain to Starlink, but does pertain to internet, internet TV, and some of the rabbit holes discussed in this thread.
Yesterday FUBO TV was down for roughly 8 hours. The semi-final world cup match was missed by FUBO customers. It was reported today that it was due to a criminal cyber attack. It may very well be linked to the same warped anarchist mentality that disrupted power service in North Carolina (that's just my speculation). My guess is we will be seeing a lot more of this kind of thing.

All the press did was bring it to the attention of every wingnut with a gun who will copycat the act. Very similar to school shootings I'm afraid.

It's long been feared terrorists will target key transmission towers, crippling the grid and causing widespread blackouts. All this incident did was prove it's feasibility.

At $2500, ($1900 on sale now), I Doubt it will be a big seller unless you live in Antarctica

I got that offer and looked and thought about it. As even with zero obstructions our connection speed is not as good as most people talk about.
I'm under 100 Mb down and 10 Mb up often.
This morning 59 Mbps on the first speed test and 77 Mbps in the second test, 12 -19 Mbps uploads.
So nothing like most people brag about but much better then my previous line of sight radio link.
I wonder if my low speeds are a result of congestion at the ground station my system links to, it's New York City and I already know that not much good ever comes out of there.

I'm in Virginia and I am routed thru the POP in New York. I find if I use Speediest.net to check my speeds, there is a lot of variation depending on which server I am connected to. It was even worse when I was connected to the Atlanta POP.

It's not clear from the Starlink e-mail whether or not there is a significant improvement in speeds with the High Performance equipment. The main focus seems to be improved functionality in cold weather. $1900 is a mighty expensive defroster.

How can you tell where it is routed?

If you go to Starlink.sx and put in your location it will show you your POP site, as well as what satellites you should be connected to. It is not the most intuitive process to enter your location though. The other thing is if you go to Speedtest.net to run a speed check, before you hit the GO button, just below and to the right of the GO button it will tell you the POP. For me it is: New York, NY.

I just came across this thread. I usually only do tractor stuff on this site - I never noticed this Rural Living forum....

Specifically to this topic we have had SL for around 2 years. It was just just-in-time because we are off grid with zero utilities and when 3g was discontinued it killed our only cell reception that we only got that with a booster mounted high above the roof. And with that you rarely have a conversation without it dropping. I.E., its hard to boost a signal that's barely there.

So SL went in before the 3g ended, TG. We dialed in the phones for WiFi calling via SL. Now if the call drops its usually on the other end. And HD calls. And push the button we have a HD call and video to see the caller, etc. It has been a game changer for us. In a rural area I have never have bandwidth like this. Due to habit, we never really use it either other than the obvious. Once in a while we may stream a movie. There is no such think as streaming in the background a not using it or paying attention - it's like leaving your faucet running and going to town.

I'm not going through 330+ pages of posts for things I could help with....

I purchased a Starlink Mesh Router and, though it works, am a bit dissatisfied with it. My primary Starlink router is in an upstairs room and I placed the Mesh Router in a downstairs room on the other end of the (small) cabin. My mesh router says its signal is 40%.

I expected much more as I had no trouble using a computer or my phone where/before I put the mesh router in. Perhaps it needs a bit of time to sync. Time will tell.

The intent of a mesh network is that mesh nodes are spread out across the building but each node is close enough to another for strong signal, which it then relays on to the next node by distance. If you just have a single mesh node and place it far enough from the main router to only get 40% signal then it really isn't an optimal arrangement. You may want to purchase another mesh node or two. Or return the SL mesh and buy a different brand's mesh system, which would include 3+ nodes by default and probably cost less.

Try putting the Mesh Router closer to the Starlink router. I think it should work better if you get it's signal percentage higher. Typically with WiFi, the lower the signal strength, the slower the speed.

I am curios why you bought one if you didn't have a problem to begin with?

Understood. However, I expected a bit more range. The Starlink is installed in a small cabin with a loft. I added a garage to the cabin. The Starlink router is upstairs on the South End of the building. I put the mesh on the North end of the 1st floor. Besides the vertical, I expect they are about 30' apart. Total distance might be 36'. The wall and ceiling between them is standard construction. Should I expect to have to put a mesh closer than every 36'? Perhaps I should return the SL and go with another system.
