After rewatching the video, and the OSHA issues aside, the guy who is cutting the pleated filter paper is just guessing lengths !!!! At least an automated cutter would/should give proper paper lengths.

I do know that I purchased some 'brake parts' from Amazon which were supposedly 'replacement parts'. Yet when I went to install, it was impossible as the parts were clearly guesstimates when they were drawn/cut/shaped/formed. All oversized and none fit the calipers. I had to return and specify USA made to get the job done.

What? This can't be so, can it? I recently saw a tractor filter made in India or maybe Pakistan.

It says car filters but a lot of guys shop for crossover deals for tractors and the cheapest price so who knows what you get?
I buy only name brand filters,I search on Google for the # filter I need then surf for price. find the right price then buy a case of them. it's usually AC Delco I use

Most of us Motorheads avoid Fram. A guy on You Tube does post mortem on them and many other things.

All of this gives me a chuckle as it reminds me of how my dad swore by an oil filter that used replaceable “ cartridges” , which were toilet paper rolls! Haven’t seen them offered lately, wonder why.

I still remember when Cummins lost a couple "B" diesels, both were traced back to the fram filters on them.

Cummins sent out notices, using fram oil filters would void the warr...

I remember those too, but many things in engines have changed since those days...

I attribute that change to simplicity. So much easier and faster to change a self contained filter than the old "cartridge" type as mentioned above.

Two datapoints - Fram was a US company, it is now owned by a company in Australia. I don't know if the product is the same, but I do know someone who had a lucrative advertising contract which went away after the Australian purchase. (Not "a friend of a friend told me", I know the guy personally.)

Many models of MB use a felt filter element, not a cartridge like most cars. Comes off the top of the engine, there's a "spine" with several O rings, the felt element slides off and the new one slides on (after cleaning the spine and replacing the O rings). Kind of a messy job, but then if you've priced a replacement MB engine lately, well, hand cleaner is a whole lot cheaper, even a whole 55 gallon drum is lots cheaper. Or several drums. (AMG V-8 in an R109 retails at $63,000 for JUST the replacement engine.)

Best Regards,

Mike/Florida
