Anyway-back to declining tractor sales. One of my friends is in tractor sales. He says it’s dead around the holidays.
I'm glad you bring this up because I have never seen any "sales" around the holidays or manufacture rebates. I have wondered why not.

Or maybe there are lots of people with lots of disposable income who are buying toys because they like them and they have the money?

You may be on to something there. Just like our society is more divided politically than it used to be, it is becoming apparent to all of us that it is divided financially as well.

All around us the wealthy half are living large in a strong economy, while the less wealthy are struggling.

Calling the financial bottom half the "Less Wealthy" makes sense to me. Just living in the USA makes us all wealthy compared to a lot of the rest of the world.

Jerome Bowell is a dope

That's a little blunt. But it reminds me of my dad defining "stupidity" as doing the same thing over and over even though it keeps on having the same wrong result.

It would be nice if we could fix the economy politically, but it has never worked that way in the past. So if we try that the chances are good that we are back to same mistake; same result.

Besides, who might be an effective leader? Frankly I'm not interested electing a leader whose idea of leadership is building himself up by tearing others down. I expect more out of leadership than that.

And I darn sure am not going to vote for the schoolyard bully.

Whoops, well doggone it. I'm afraid I just ran out of candidates.

really?
Thanksgiving is the time when my local dealers start pushing deals & specials.

The Fed started too late, but they are the only part of government acting like grownups right now.

I hope there are some sales coming. They are supposed to start framing my garage on Monday. By Thanksgiving, (or sooner) I may actually have a place to park my tractor.

I've only been looking at tractor sales since 2009. But it seems sales for small tractors (<100HP) have always declined from late fall to early spring.

You get “blunt” when you see 6 trillion thrown into sketchy programs and then “coincidentally” inflation shoots up to record levels.

Who amongst us didn't think printing 6 or 7 trillion dollars in govt spend programs would not devalue the dollar in your pocket?
Even if they get voted out now they got what they came for. Trillions of taxpayers dollars spread among themselves for years and years to come. I'm shocked and appalled at what I am seeing on the political landscape of America divided. Why are so many of our representatives filthy rich? Why do we pay them lifetime salaries? This is not what the constitution intended.

You are entitled to be angry at whatever you want. It is a good idea to determine if that anger is based on facts or alternative facts.
Only left wing Liberals know the facts. All the rest of us are left with alternative facts.

There's no way I'd have ever chosen a political science major as Chairman of the Federal Reserve. Economics requires a certain mindset plus a lot of disciplined study to be qualified as an economist. Experience working as an attorney for investment bankers is not an adequate substitute, in my personal opinion. By analogy, you can't turn an attorney into a mechanical engineer by him working as an attorney for an engineering firm any more than you can an attorney into an economist by working for investment bankers.

On top of that, they should have known that adding 6 trillion on top of what they'd already printed since 2008 was going too far. Now they are trying to put the horse cart in reverse and none of this is going to end well.

One sort of expects this nonsense from the politicians, but we used to have people at the Fed that had some semblance of ability to think through the economics of what they were doing.

I’m not a left winger, but it’s interesting that you would call yourself clueless.

Actually that's a medical definition of mental insanity.

Too bad this thread is reduced to grade school labelling and name calling.
I was looking forward to a discussion of the issues.

Regardless of how the election turns out in a few days, a lot of damage has been done that will take years to fix if it ever gets fixed. It's a real shame what has happened. I don't happen to be one that is tremendously affected by what has happened, at least not in the short term, not like my kids who are starting out and others who are barely making it.

I know we are talking about tractor sales here but I would love to know what other, truly discretionary, things are doing in terms of sales. I kind of see a tractor as a necessity but I have lived without them before. I'll be interested in seeing what the Black Friday numbers look like.

/ New Tractor Sales Are Declining #597
With all the online shopping, Black Friday isn't what it used to be.

In the words of Rudy G. “you’re Honor, we have lots of theories but no evidence.”
I did not like the outcome, but accept the results pending compelling evidence, but i defend to the death the right of anyone to question the security of our elections. and IMO anyone who cries foul at the person asking questions about the security of our elections is hiding something.

/ New Tractor Sales Are Declining #599
Anyone who attacks someone who is questioning them is likewise hiding something or supporting a belief they cannot logically defend. You are either having a discussion of the opposing views supported by facts or you are bullying somebody into following your lead or accepting your way or the highway.
Hopefully the midterm election on a few days will pull the govt back towards the center as a midterm should when the govt has swung too far one way or the other... and yes I agree some damage is done which will have long term financial and social ramifications.
Socially I have not seen this country more divided than it is now.

I don't see the problem with spending. It seems to me that the problem is with borrowing.

The continued spending is what fuels inflation. Raising the federal interest rate, the rates banks pay to borrow money, slows down the velocity of spending. But if everybody is spending thinking that they are getting ahead of continuing inflation, that spending itself fuels more inflation.

At some point people run out of money because the rising cost of ordinary goods and services increasingly reduces discretionary spending and the economy slows.
