I got my 12cu ft chest freezer in 1997. Defrost it every year around October. I also have an upright 18 cu ft., bought ten years ago. Right now it has everything that was in the chest. The chest will be finished defrosting tomorrow, it'll get plugged back in and cooled down to about 10°F. The upright gets defrosted and decommissioned until the price of meat comes down some.for those of you who own a secondary freezer, any thoughts on upright vs chest?
Seems to be advantages of both. Less bending over with upright.
Headed to local appliance store tomorrow to see what their least expensive 10-13 cf freezer is and what is their most popular.
Maybe larger if some volume leader is cheaper or the best deal.
Also, what breaks down the least. They do the repairs so they will know.
I do not need an Electrolux or Bosch freezer in this modest cottage. I'm happy with US made (Mexico??) appliances delivered and installed
included, including down the stairs to the basement. Not like I can get it down there by myself. These freezers aren't light.
GE, Hotpoint, Frigidare, plain white, frost free if upright. If freezers were cars it would be a Biscayne.
I don't need wifi. Or alarming, I don't want to talk to my frozen broccoli.
I'm in the basement almost every day for the hot tub so having a power on light would be helpful to see from afar.
I need another breaker put in on the panel and a receptacle run for this freezer in the basement.
That will make three things for the electrician to do.
They seem to have a 300 dollar minimum so I'll see how much gets done for that.
Kitchen ceiling light, bathroom Panasonic vent (yes I ordered a second size to see if bigger one will fit.)
and now running a line for this basement freezer.
these tradesmen know they operate in the high rent district, though I happen to live in the medium rent area...older much smaller homes, which is just fine with me.
I have a couple different guys I can call. I'd like to get all three done for 500 bucks.
let's see how close I get to that. I'm providing the light fixture and the new vent fan. Electrician needs to possibly add another breaker, and run a 20 amp line 10 feet with a box on the end.
I think my 500 is creeping up to 700...
The firewood is all in the basement. The conveyor is oiled up and put to bed until next fall.
The mess the tire chains made of the driveway has all been dealt with. I do NOT like a smooth driveway, there are 3+" rocks sitting on top, along with a couple of speed bumps in places where the contrast between shade and bright sunlight is abrupt.
Nobody is going to haul azz up that driveway.
