I would suggest checking the glow plugs to make sure they are good and heating. How does it do once it warms up, does it still take 8-14 tries to start?

Make sure you change both fuel filters, there are two. Also make sure the lift pump is working, you should hear it clicking when you turn the key on.

Check the glow plugs or get new ones. If it starts good when warm, glow plugs are probably the problem. You can make sure they get voltage first, to make sure the system is working.

Do you let the gl plugs warm up for 10-20 seconds before cranking? Do you move th throttle lever to about 1/3 throttle, (not low idle)?

My BX1800 fires right up for me every time, but my son insists on cranking it immediately, at low throttle, and complains that it's hard to start... it's about the proper procedure.

Confirm proper operation of glow plugs as well.

I’d add to check all fuel hoses and clamps, I’ve chased similar issues that ended up being air intrusion into fuel system.

It seems like in my experience unless it’s cold you shouldn’t need the glow plugs, say 50 degrees or less, you need them.
