I live in a small town with what used to be very little crime in the area but meth is creeping in and folks are beginning to have stuff stolen from their property. Meth scum don’t sleep for days and will steal anything and everything. My neighbor had his catalytic converter stolen in the Wal Mart parking lot. I left an extension ladder out and came home from church and it was gone.

Couldn't find the keys if I took them out.
Hate that the new keys/fobs have no way to disable the key-in switch chime!
Also, with today's vehicle prices,I'm driving late 2000's high mileage cars, hoping nobody wants them.

Most likely acting based on experience…

After experiencing multiple losses in at Home Depot, OSH stores, Job Sites… it makes one leary.

Mostly shatter a window but not always.
We moved 752 miles from urban sprawl & decay to The Great Smoky Mountains, only to find that the house across the street is druggies. . .

-sigh-
It happens more than many think...

Also if too isolated like my friends on Puget Sound theft is a problem...

Remote so you are on your own and wide open if no one home...

Locally it doesn’t take long for the gendarmerie to figure out who the meth heads are. Like you said, they stay up all night, get antsy, and go for drives. Most folks are in the house after about 2200 week nights. So, they stand out.

There are companies working on opening, or reopening two mines. So it might change soon. We’ll see.

All of my keys stay in all of my stuff. Always have. But.. I live 7 miles out of town, middle of nowhere. But what some of you said about meth heads, it's true! They even wander out into the country sometimes. They are up all night and steal anything not bolted down. Catalytic converter thefts are at an all time high in my town right now.

I have a ‘63 Willys with factory theft prevention devices.

Three-on-the-tree and a manual choke!
Pictures, or it doesn't exist!

Ypu can't make a statement like that, and not let us see it.👍

The local gendarmerie is well-aware:

we are on a dead-end street, and five houses before us, the District Attorney and the County Assistant District Attorney live across the street from each other.

the druggies and their degenerate druggie friends and customer s HAVE TO DRIVE PAST THE DA AND ADA BOTH IN AND OUT AND NOTHING GETS DONE!

f*cking useless gummint drones.

oh—- and the best part is the diagonal neighbor the other way from us a seasonal resident, and a couple weeks ago their house was burglarized.

and nobody knows nuthin. . .

There was an old house down the road from us that was constantly rented to meth heads.
Every month or so you would see the red label on the door warning of a busted meth lab.
After the last bust the house went up in flames one night. Burnt really fast.
The fire dept never did a thing until it was a smoldering heap, then they wet everything down.
No investigation was ever done. Everyone knew that it was a blessed accident.
