Good Morning!!!! A chilly 36F here this morning. Sunshine and clouds mixed. High near 55F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph. You folks have been very busy! Took a long time to catch up, even though I've been taking brief peeks while I was away.
I'm a strong believer in diversity, Drew, all kinds of it including financial. I'm very fond of the dividends thrown off by MO (Altria), a tobacco stock I've held for many years, even though I choose not to partake of the noxious weed myself. I take a very dim view of so called "activism" that seems aimed at limiting the options available for everyone else. If people could learn to live and let live, there would be a lot less strife in the world, right Randy?
I put out eight full hummingbird feeders last Thursday morning, and when I got home yesterday afternoon, only two of them had anything in them. One was being swarmed by about a dozen of the little devils as the sun set last night, so job one this morning is whipping up another seven gallons of nectar and getting it hung out for the hungry ones.
My friend in Lompoc enjoyed showing me around over the long weekend, but in spite of the hospitality and the nice weather, there wasn't much allure in the real estate market there. For example, a new listing popped up on her street, and the sale history on the property showed it had been sold just last October for about $400K, and was back on the market at $517K. It's amazing what a coat of cheap white paint and some laminate flooring will do for a property. Not. We also found another property very similar to where I live now, with all the same problems. It sat at the end of a very narrow, steep, and brush choked lane, at the top of a hill, in a rural area far from fire hydrants or fire stations. That likely meant satellite only Internet, and the same problems getting homeowners insurance coverage, along with well and septic issues. None of this stopped the seller from asking nearly $900K for it, though. No wonder it's been on the market for so long.
Also worked in some hikes, one through a large open space area holding an old Spanish mission with lots of historical exhibits, another an empty beach to one side of the Vandenberg Space Force Base, an installation so big it pretty much dominates the town of Lompoc. The beach hike proved the undoing of my old hiking boots, as both soles decided to detach from the front half of the uppers toward the end of the walk. Couldn't have picked a better time, but I guess the ancient glue the Slovacs used just couldn't take another step.

They were Lowa Scouts, the latest thing twelve years ago, but now I'm wondering what marvels have arisen in the hiking boot world since then.
Took the scenic way down on Thursday, picking up Highway 1 on the coast at Carmel Valley, and staying on it all the way to Lompoc. Beautiful weather and very light weekday traffic, as well as plenty of time to get there, made for a very enjoyable ride. I let the GPS pick the route home yesterday, and it made a bee line for I-5, which has seen a surprising amount of re-surfacing in the past few years. That meant a nice smooth ride for me and a bottle or two of some unusual Bourbon I ran across during my stay. No mechanical problems on the touring bike this time around, though it did develop some new static on the audio system about half way home yesterday. Probably another dirty connection somewhere, and nothing a few drops of automatic transmission fluid won't cure.
A happy 2/22/22 to you all!
