As we were cleaning out my mother's house, she passed in October 2021, I found a Zippo lighter that I believe was given to my dad at his retirement in 1980. It did not work, the wheel spun freely and I could not get a new flint to make contact. I sent the lighter off to the Zippo company and received it back yesterday. They replaced the insides with a new unit and sent the case, new lighter part, and the old lighter part back.

The lighter is at least 42 years old and they honored the lifetime warranty.

I do not smoke, this is a keepsake only.

Buck knives, Pro Shot (gun cleaning products), Springfield Armory and Weatherby have all been great when I have dealt with them and stood behind their products. On my Springfield I just called to get some parts to replace that had some wear or broke when I took it apart and they sent me all the new parts I needed. Buck has never questioned a warranty, Weatherby covered it when I told them it was my mistake. Pro Shot has never once questioned a claim from me on a rod and when I had a cousin overseas in Afghanistan and called to gt a bunch of product to send to him (for some reason the ARMY lacked cleaning supplies) they direct shipped a HUGE box of everything I requested straight to him.

Condolences on your mom's passing. That's nice to have something from your father. I've got some things from most of my male elders. Nice to just take them out and hold them once in a while. Kudos to the Zippo Co. (y)

I had a Schlage keypad lock on my tackroom fail after 6 years. Has a lifetime warranty. I contacted them, they sent me a new one. No freight charge either

I have 2 zippo lighters that belonged to my father. They are both beat to hell. Both of the have navy insignias on them.

One of the is engraved with a date on front, Mar 17, 1960 and on the back "Air Antisubmarine Squadron Thirty Two"

I have often thought about trying to get them repaired, but they'd probably have to replace the cases and I'm guessing they are not really replaceable, so I just keep them in a box as they are.

I have several Zippo's around the house that I also inherited from my folks. They all still work but see little use since no one in the house smokes. As you say, they're mostly keepsakes.

I've been to the Zippo factory and museum in Bradford PA. It's an amazing company. I took the factory tour after seeing the museum and it's worth a trip.

I will add Dixon valve and Moen to the list. The former just me a replacement washer and a complete set of drawings and specifications for a fire valve we have. Omen has sent two replacement aerator heads for a faucet (first two had a failure point, 3rd was a redesign that looks good).

I would also add Power-Trac, whose after sales service support has been great over the years.

All the best,

Peter

Yep. After warranty service with them over the phone has been quite a pleasant experience for me as well. Don't need it very often, but when I do, they have the answers (unless its hunting season 🙃 ).

Four companies come to mind.

Bennet Trim tabs for boats. All I did was make a inquiry as to what a few replacement parts would cost me. Four days later the parts I asked about just show up in the mail free.

Dremil Tool Company. Same deal. Was expecting some sort of bill, but they said it was free.

Moen bath fixtures.... Crazy good customer service. I have bought all the stuff for one bath room and kitchen, but the downstairs bath was unfinished and I waited too long on this. They had discontinued the product, which I very much wanted to match everything else in the house. Moen apparently searched the inventory of every distributor in the US and found some old stock. Sent it to me will a bill that was half of the original price.

Cub Cadet ...... "I probably broke this part." No problem, we'll have it shipped out today for free.

I forgot about the Gendel P30 I bought from a local gun dealer. Dealer said it was new. But it wouldn't cycle more than three or four rounds. Set it back to Grendel. It was completely rebuild/ replaced aside from the frame. Sent back at no cost with a hand written letter from George Kellgren. :)

Not sure if it's true or not but on the bottom of Zippo lighter if the notch/line tells the quality of the lighter...more the notches/lines. (y)

I've checked all 3 of my Zippo lighters and there's no notch or line.

That being said, over the years I've sent all of my Zippos off from Australia to the Zippo repair address and all have been fixed at no cost to me. Usually it's the hinge but once someone borrowed it and refilled it with kerosene = gummed it up. Each time the lighter has come back with a new lighter insert. The broken hinge had been re-welded. Top workmanship.

A bit of an Aussie 'plug': R.M.Williams boots have their factory address on the 'tabs'. If you send them there they will re-sole/heel them and return for free. Top quality, but, there again, their boots are top quality. Even though they're 'dress boots' both of my pairs (black & brown) have "seen a stirrup".

Many years ago, I read a book about Ernie Pyle, a WWII correspondent who was killed on Okinawa in 1945. Seems he mentioned Zippo lighters in one of his columns; about how the GIs loved them because they would light in the wind and stay lit. The Zippo company sent him a case of new lighters (80 lighters as I recall). Ernie didn't smoke, but he did report that he now had 80 very good new friends!

Pretty much all the outfits that build reloading presses stand behind their stuff, no questions asked.

Gilmour Flexegen hose. Lifetime guarantee, replaced free and they pay the shipping too. I know I tried them out. Had the end of one fail, called them on their 800 number, told me to send back both ends for a new one and sure enough sent me a brand new hose and paid the freight too. Enclosed was a gift voucher for the cost of shipping back the ends too. It is good hose too. Made in the USA.
