What did you get? I bought a Husqvarna ventilated one a couple years ago, love it!

Older version of this one I believe
I have two helmets. One was the older version of what is now called the Husqvarna Functional Forest Helmet (this is the one that was just hit and I'm throwing out). The other is the Husqvarna Technical Forest Helmet, as in your link.

I really like the fit of the Technical Forest Helmet - much better than any other helmet I've worn (I've never tried the Pfanner Protos helmet, which I've heard is really comfortable and great features - but also really expensive.) The ventilation and the UV indicator in the Technical Forest Helmet are nice features, and the way the screen swings way up out of the way is nice. I bought one early on after their US release. After only a few uses, one of the hearing protectors popped off the helmet. It had never been hit or otherwise abused, I was just flipping it up off my ear so I could hear, and it came off in my hand. After fiddling with it over a couple of months, where I'd reattach it and it would just pop off again, I complained to Husqvarna. They sent me new hearing protectors under warranty. No hassle: just told them the problem, and they shipped them out. One of those also popped off after a few months of use.

It was a month out of warranty, but I REALLY liked the helmet other than this, sent Husqvarna an email explaining the problem. I was actually willing to buy another one, if they just assured me that the issue had been fixed. They asked for some pictures, then sent me a whole new helmet, even though I was out of warranty. I used that one for about 6 months, and an ear piece popped off again. I gave up and removed the ear pieces altogether. (With this design, you can remove them without affecting the flip up visor.) That became my hot weather helmet - I just wore ear plugs instead of the muffs, which is my preference in the summer anyway.

Since I needed a winter weather helmet, I just went to the hardware store and picked up another Husqvarna Functional Forest Helmet. It was available off the shelf.

I'd still consider buying another Technical Helmet, IF I could determine that Husqvarna had fixed whatever the issue was. I've heard around the time this was happening to my helmets that some others have had the issue, but some have used them for years with no problems. I have not really followed the issue recently to see what's up.

No tractor pics today. Spent a lot of time pushing wood up the chimney. High was -6*F. A cold day for these parts.

I spent the morning close to the truck, and much of the afternoon doing the same as you. I finally realized that maple is much better than ash for days like today... I didn't think I'd EVER get the house warmed back up when I got home.

It was 9 here when I left the house, then had to meet a building inspector and it was 7 at that house about 10am. We switched from poplar & Ash last week when it was 40 to cherry & some red oak now that it's in the single digits.

I keep them sprayed with anti fog but there’s only so much you can do for sweat and temp differences. Sometimes the best thing is nothing at all with keeping an eye on where the chips are headed goes a long ways.

I have had mine a year, maybe a year and a half, have not had that problem.

Not sure I know what you mean.

Lead means to directional fall so everything is going the same direction so everything can easily yarded in the most efficient manner possible. The only time this isn’t done is a cutting line or a power line.

Thank you for the explanation.

I do a lot of small patch cuts and single tree or small group cuts. This small patch I laid every thing up hill perpendicular to the trail.

Then for single trees and small groups it's like you said - put them in a spot where they will hit the ground and be easy to pull out.

Good! Maybe Husky has fixed the issue. I might think about another one at some point.

12 degree kind of cold for the last couple of days...today was 35.

Decided to pull shrubs with the grapple to clear a new cross-over on a small creek into some land on the backside of my property since everything has frozen up.

Was reaching and tugging on a huge Multiflora rose bush tucked in tight next to a tree.

I was pulling with the grapple while moving the tractor backwards...back tires broke loose...rear of the tractor slid just slightly sideways on the frozen ground...it was only a few inches!

Ended up sliding sideways - perfectly in between two trees...could not move the tractor forward or backward more than 1 inch in either direction.

So it was a walk back to the shop for the 572 to drop a 12 inch Poplar to free the tractor.

Getting wedged in like that was a first for me.

I actually turned off the tractor, sat there for a moment and thought..."Now what would Gordon do?"

Not trying, not trying to prevent it either. That opening was pretty tight up top. I just wanted it to be able to roll or what ever it wanted to in order to get down thru there.

My work is like child's play compared to what you can do but I try to keep learning.

:) Same thing you did. In fact I've done it except I had a saw. I learned earlier to never go in the woods w/o a saw on my tractor. Mine was a little different. All I had at the time was my L3010. We had about 18" of snow but I had a nice hard trail packed. I was pulling a hitch out and with that tractor I had to make constant use of steering brakes in the snow. Well I got off to the left side of the trail to far and it dropped down in the soft stuff tipping the tractor. Jigged around to much trying to get back up on the trail and ended up with a tipped tractor leaning into a tree between the steering wheel and the seat.
