Grass is growing but gonna give it a few more days before next round of mowing. One of the benefits of grass vs snow. More flexibility as to when grass must be dealt with.

I wish I hadn’t pushed my snow, did more damage than good. Now I got a pile of dirt and gravel to clean out of my yard. Probably should try to back drag it now while ground is frozen.

Our old cat is sick. Started throwing up a bunch, other end leaking also. Wife just took it to vet.

Been taking very boring training courses. These are real eye pokers. I pity the person who has to create this stuff.

Eric, did your daughter have any symptoms? Some people in the neighborhood are reporting a positive covid test but no symptoms

None at all when tested. Two days later has a few aches, but nothing worse than what you get with a cold. Rest of family test results are all negative so far.

A year ago a failed test could well be the start of a serious issue, now for most of us who have been vaccinated it is thankfully only a minor inconvenience.

Good afternoon all.

Is anyone else curious about how dry their firewood is ? In the past I have weighed, dried in the oven, then weighed again slices out of a log to see how much water it had inside.

Recently I got a Bosch moisture meter, which is a lot more convenient to use. The wood coming out of the store has been drying under cover for a couple of years or more and tests out at just under 20% water, which is what I expected and about as good as it gets in our climate. Hazel that I cut last winter and was late to bring under cover is still almost 30%. Without the meter I could have been putting that on the fire tonight then watching the water bubble out of the end.

Eric, I too have a moisture meter and I have found that IF the meter registers anything below 20% the wood is good to burn. Checking on the cut ends and the bark falling off is also a good indicator. Right now all my wood registers at less than 5% moisture. My indoor woodpile is about 20' from one of the vents on the wood furnace. You might say the wood is kiln dried.

I just watched an interesting hypothesis regarding Titanic and her sister ship Britannic.

I suspect the list of 95 shortcomings is rather detailed and individual instances, like the 6 missing screens likely listed as each window.
My guess would be contractor didn’t do own walk thru, just relied on the help, ie the already over worked lead carpenter.

The owners are less than happy campers as the house was to be done last July, then after a sitdown Nov 15 was the finish date, then Dec 15, then New Years, then this Monday.

I think Diane pretty much summed up saying, “we are paying big money for this house, I don’t expect to have to fix things after we move in”

Been hammer time on the troughs here for a few weeks.

Some of our horses just don't like to use the auto-waterers.

Sigh.

We have some green 16 gallon heated tubs from TSC and few winters I told my daughter to get the 50-100 foot cords she wanted out of the shop but she didn't bring them back and I guess they are buried in another storage building and out of my sight.

The larger black elongated tanks work well in normal Winter temps because of collected solar energy and warm ground temps. At 1 PM today it is 45F with full sun one a slight southern slope. As Artic ice volume decreases it's is helping the jet stream stay north of our place more of the time at our KY/TN border location. Due to global warming we require more AC in the summer but warmer Winters are nice for my old bones.

Good day in the basement for cleaning even the Mrs. said that's way it should look all the time.
Dinner made just have slide in oven for an hour,feet up early to bed out the door before day break.
