You mention that the axe was found in a plowed field,,
I have a relative that owns a farm.

One field has so many Indian arrowheads,
that EVERY time they plow the field, and have a subsequent rain storm,,
the field can be walked, and more arrow heads can be found.

I have two nephews that can see the arrowheads 20 feet away,,
I can not see them if I trip over them!!

It is an interesting skill that they have,,

When my kids where first learning to split wood I would take duct tape and wrap it around the collar of the handle of my mauls and sledge hammers . After a day of splitting they would bring them back and the tape would be all beat up but the handle would be intact.

I bought a steel handled maul thinking that it would last forever . I was right 15 years old and it looks brand new. After a few swings and a ton of viabration sent through wrists and arms it just sits in the connor on a time out.🍻

Scandinavian ship building technology combined whit a combination of warrior and tradesmen carry the Vikings fare away, to America, deep in to Russia, invading large parts of UK and France, helped to establish Russia as a nation, as far as I know the Vikings might have named Russia as the area was called Rus by them, had large trading post in Poland and probably in your country to. They probably also traded with the Arabic world as both Arabic coins and other Muslim artwork is found. And finish it with the Norman invasion of England in 1066, but then they were becoming a bit french ;).
We know, we know the journeys of Varangians of that time. :)
And the creation of Kievan Rus' by Rurikid dynasty.

I have a fiberglass handled maul that sits in the corner too. A days worth of splitting with it will really hurt the joints compared to the wood handled mauls. I also have the Fiskers maul and it is fast on easy rounds.

Was there a battle in the area?

And what are the arrowheads made of?

There was a battle there, but, it was probably thousands of years after the arrowheads were left in the field.

The spot is right next to the James river in Virginia.

I am sure it is the location that the Indians had a campsite,
my guess is,
and they would spend evenings, chipping some type of stone into arrowheads,,
thousands of years before the Civil War passed over the location.

I always felt that the arrowheads that we found were the rejects,, not quite perfect enough.
Why else would so many be in one location, that is only half as big as a football field??

I am sure the Civil War went by there,,
We had several LARGE walnut trees blow down,, beautiful, huge logs over 14 foot long were cut.

Well, we filled a LARGE GMC tandem dump truck with the logs, and had log buyers come by to give us a price.
EVERY one of the buyers rejected the logs,,

They were positive the logs were full of Minié balls from a Civil War battle.
They had maps showing where main battles were, YEP, those trees were right in a middle of a battle.

After a couple months, the truck was needed for other uses,,
we dumped the ENTIRE load on the beach, and had a BIG Saturday night walnut campfire.
The campfire was within 100 feet of where the arrowheads are found,,

I'm sure hunting was good right next to the river.

ESPECIALLY,, if those Indians planted soybeans!! (LOL!!) :ROFLMAO:
The deer love soybeans when that field is planted with that crop,,

What an interesting story! How many such untold stories are still sleeping in our heads!?

The stone you have mentioned the arrowheads are made of probably is a flint stone?
Entire stone age is related with this kind of stone.
It could also be that a very big animal (maybe mammoth) was hunted in that place. No?

We have the same here. The trees are still keeping bullets and splinters inside from the WW2 and freedom battles which damage saws.

So you left those Minié balls after burning the logs nearby arrowheads and have created a huge question for future archeologists?
