Back in the day, when working a fire, having a sharp short handled axe was the only way to go. Lighter than a chainsaw, and always worked. Like ArlyA says, you can cut through a tree pretty fast with a nice sharp axe. I used to have a double headed one, one side was kept sharp, the other i'd sacrifice to work on stuff in the dirt. It got lost in a fire that flared up and took off with me running in the opposite direction. 😂

Oh, we use the short handled ones as well! I just found a photo of me using one. We write our phone number on them in case they get left somewhere. Yes, most people will call or text you if they find it.

Any axe I've lost has been in the woods where it likely got covered with leaves. Learned long ago to paint the handles blaze orange.

The "Dull Steel Kitchen Knife" is the reason I had to try something different,,
when we want "SHARP", I use a ceramic knife,,
it is like using a new razor, but is sharp FAR longer than you would expect, considering its little cost .
Had a ceramic knife a few years ago, you're right they're VERY sharp. Unfortunately, at the time we had a magnetic knife holder so this one just got tossed in a drawer. No idea what happened to it.

There is a TV show running on Danish TV2 about a young couple buying an old run down farm and turning it into a lifestyle without having to buy anything to live on. He uses an axe for much of his carpenter work and he learned many os his skills working on an farm in the Lapland region of Norway. He is very good at it and very skilled. The show is very popular in Denmark and has been running for many seasons. The show is call Bonderoeven

DRTV - Frank & Kastaniegaarden Here is a link to the show if anyone is interested. Unfortunately it is in Danish with no subtitles but easy to follow especially for Scandinavians

We don't, since you can't find anything dropped among orange and red leaves in the fall. We use blue.. I have .75 wide blue vinyl tape and blue hockey stick tape for marking tools that go into the woods.

Food, fuel and work always comes first.
You confirm what I usually say within the disputes - who won the WW2. My answer is - the country, which first of all has enough resources to feed its army. So the winner is stew. Who is the manufacturer - I believe you know. Not everyone likes my answer.
