with all that open desert beside the road, I have to ask why he didn't park it in the sage brush rather than run through an intersection and kill 2 people.
That's the difference between a pro licensed trucker who always has some kind of escape plan in the back of his mind, and an unlicensed amateur who has no idea how to respond in an emergency.

So he does nothing and drives right into the heavy traffic in that intersection per the last photo.

It's not stated in the news articles but I expect that's a boat-transport contractor, not a boat owned by the idiot. Maybe his first haul.

Or a gypo fly by night hauler looking to make a few quick dollars with no clue what he was doing.

Some boat owners are the cheapest sobs and try to do stuff themselves to save a few bucks, unsure if they got the training from you-tube or read it in a book, yet sometimes they pay 500k plus for a boat. Some cheap boat yards do anything for a few bucks, old saying was you don't buy a boat yard to make millions you buy one to lose millions. remember a yahoo loaded a very expensive and heavy Riva on a similar trailer wasn't on it correctly (had to be moved forward 12" to the front bumper stop) he didn't want to pay for loading with a travelift (its basically a gantry crane) thought it was a great idea to accelerate and stop abruptly with his tow vehicle to move boat forward, instead of putting the trailer back in the water and positioning the boat correctly. This boat had twin yanmar turbo diesels and was 30+feet.

Looks like a trailer designed to be adaptable to many boats.

That boat weighs ALOT! It's a long, high freeboard luxury sport boat. Makes my 35' Fountain sport boat (8500# boat, 3000# ish trailer) look like a tinker toy.

Spooner is a serious grade from Tahoe elevation to Nevada desert floor.
If you're not from the area, or live in flatter parts of the country, it can be difficult to appreciate just how long and steep some of the local mountain pass grades can be.

One mountain pass near to this one is Ebbetts Pass-- it's a 24% grade.

I recently drove a brand new motorhome over Monitor Pass, another nearby and very steep grade. I was towing a Jeep Wrangler and had no braking system for the Jeep. Twice during the short descent from top to bottom, I had to pull over, shut down, and let the brakes cool. Despite using tow/haul and being in 2nd gear at all times. The 2nd time I pulled over I could smell the overheated brakes.

Many of these grades have ample turnouts just for such situations. I'm guessing the F-350 driver didn't do the same ....

Yes I once drove a 32' motorhome over this one as well ...

We did a Model A Ford tour back in 1980 when the National convention was at the MGM Grand Reno.

600+ cars for the event with many on display in the Grand Ball Room including mine which was 2nd place in class.

Ebbets Pass was on the route home and reminds me of European Alpine driving... most ever I drove 31%

The Model A's did fine... nice and slow in the early morning....

I attribute it to gearing.... slow and steady...

I've seen several times cars losing brakes on the old switchback Kingsbury grade...

Mechanic said it was rare to have with a manual but when automatics became popular it started happening a lot...

Of course their are pictures circa 1910 on Echo of cars dragging logs used for added braking down the grade...

I am curious as to how much of the 24 miles is a 24% grade.
I don't know. One particularly steep stretch is also twisty, with one hairpin turn halfway up/down.

I love driving on this road, although I prefer going eastbound. It's only about 1 1/2 lanes wide, with no stripe. In one section, if you are westbound, you are at the edge of a cliff for a substantial distance. No guard rail. If someone came around the blind switchback and hit you .... over you would go! It's closed now for winter, but next chance I'll take a picture of that stretch.

How steep is Ebbetts Pass?
The road is very steep and features countless blind hairpin corners, hitting a 24% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps. It is rarely used by commercial traffic and is not recommended for vehicles towing long trailers. It is not suitable for large trucks, buses, or RVs, as it becomes very steep and narrow, with no center dividing line shortly after the Mount Reba Turnoff to Bear Valley Ski area, with tight switchbacks. It winds in improbably steep switchbacks around large tree trunks and truck sized boulders, climbing the next ridge. The eastern slope is particularly difficult, as many of the hairpin corners are blind, and steepen suddenly at the apex, making it necessary to shift to first gear in most vehicles. The road, past Bear Valley, gets very narrow.
