Is a 60" bush hog ok on a B2650?

No i do not own one now. I seen one for sale is why i asked about it.

I have 17 acres of field to bush hog twice a year to keep it looking nice it's mostly open and 4,5 acres of yard to mow. I inherited the land from my uncle.

I thought a 72" bush hog would be better for the fields and i don't know for the yards. Yes i have two houses now and two yards to mow and pay tax on! yay!

Friends say just buy a tractor and a zero turn. I would like to go all tractor if i could. My uncle used a 46" cub cadet for the yard which i have now and a larger tractor for the fields that was sold to pay off some things.

He also has a long gravel driveway that needs work. In the winter it tends to drift with snow but we don't get that much anymore. The only stuff left is the cub cadet and a rear blade 3pt and a 72" front QA blade so he must of had a kubota QA tractor.

When i was a kid i helped him so i am no stranger to tractors but that was 20 years ago. It used to be a small farm with cows and turkey houses. He was un-able to make a profit all that is gone and in the past.
I have been doing as you want to do with my 2015 B2650 which I bought new. I do all of my mowing, rototilling, grading, snow plowing, brush hogging with 60" bush hog brand brush hog, and anything else that needs done with just this tractor. Have 60" mmm and Land Pride 72" rfm for mowing out back. It works very well and happy space wise and maintainence wise with one tractor. I have 1700 hrs on my tractor now, and the only thing I had to replace was hst safety switch. Been a very good tractor.

I agree with Rickb that the tractor and 5' mower are a good match.

The real question is whether they are a good match for the property and trying to mow a 17acre field twice a year.

Sounds like the first mow is gonna be really slow going. But once you start maintaining it twice a year you shouldn't be mowing "over-the-hood" stuff anymore.

But a 17 acre field.. if it isn't lawn-like smooth....I think you are gonna find the small size, small tires, and lighter weight of a B to make for a rough ride.

It's a weekend project at best with that equipment. Bigger is faster, speed costs money. How fast do you want to go? I agree about the hood-high grass/weeds Timeliness will cure that.

For me it would all come down to how smooth it is. Maybe the OP knows, maybe not. But if he ends up with a B and it's as rough as a horse pasture....I don't think you'll ever get over 2-3 mph regardless of how often it's mowed because you won't be able to keep you @$$ in the seat.

If it's yard or hayfield smooth....mowing twice a year....I can see 5mph as tolerable.

That's the difference between getting it mowed in one day... Or two+ days of misery bouncing around on a small machine

If I didn't know the conditions of the 17 acres inherited....I'd probably be inclined (money well spent) to rent a machine for the first mowing. Then you will have a better idea of what size you want

Title says all it's on flat ground but the grass is thick and over the hood of the tractor.
Too big for most conditions and nearly all 60" cutters exceed the 500 Lb. maximum recommended weight limitation in the Operator's Manual.

No, I did not say that it could not be done, only that it is too big and too heavy for most conditions.

Agreed.

The short wheelbase and small tires make for a rough ride.

I am thinking about buying a 72" bush hog and rear finish mower and using the old garden mower to get around the trees and house for the trim work.

I do not know how rough the field is i'm sure it's full of holes lol

Well if a bunch of the respondents think a 60" cutter is too big (which I disagree with) I will without any doubt say a buying a 72" cutter to pair with a B2650 is a mistake. But as is usually the case, it's not my cash or my choice.

Holes can wreck your day.

The dealer said i can switch them out if i find the B2650 to small would just have to pay the fees for transport $130

He also has a L3901 and a L4701 they where both gear drives. I did not like the seat on them is there a aftermarket seat maker? I think he said the kubota deluxe seat was over a $1000
