Good morning!!!!

Morning all, partly cloudy and 61, calling for a bit of rain.
Why do cats decide to make huge amounts of noise at 1am out side my window?
Today work and tonight back to school night at the high school.

Yesterday took new saw apart for cleanup and old craftsman saw apart to see if I can get it running.

Fuddy-everything here has gone up 10-50%, meat is so expensive it's going to be cheaper to go to a restaurant soon!

Roy- are you sure she doesn't read GM- :censored: I won't talk- you sound frustrated-take a deep breath.....Dr. and hospitals are confounding sometimes..

Sodamo- isn't it always a $2 part which causes car fix delays. I remember my friend started making gaskets for his motorcycles because he could not wait for them to ship.

Stay safe and be well,

Good Morning.
It’s 60 and going up to 70 or so with rain likely.

Yesterday went more or less according to plan. Fixed hose air hose reel, serviced standby generator, cleaned up some outside, but didn’t grease the Progressive. Figured that I would do that before I mow on Thursday.

Today is breakfast with a friend and then off to see what the price of Baltic Birch is, got some speakers to build.

Good Morning!!!! 52F @ 4:30 AM. Abundant sunshine. High 78F. Winds NW at 10 to 20 mph.
Picked up 0.08" of ran yesterday evening when the cold front came through, more than predicted but hardly a drop in the bucket. A Red Flag Warning starts at 11AM, lasting through the day; low humidity and wind will quickly dry the abundant fuels leading to dangerous spread of any fires that start.

Speaking of fire, they caught another arsonist this week, this time around a wack job environmental warrior from the SF Bay Area, now accused of starting the 5000 acre plus Fawn Fire just north of Redding. It's already burned over 100 homes, and several firefighters have been injured. Her excuse? She was trying to boil water she got from a puddle in which she also found bear pee.

Think your mail is slow now? Wait 'till these new changes take effect, especially during the holidays.

Those spare belts act as a talisman, Drew, virtually guaranteeing you'll never have to use the replacement. I carried a spare alternator belt for years while I toured on a more modern BMW motorcycle, and it went to the new owner when I sold the bike.

My favorite Mexican roach coach gets $8.50 for a burrito, and $1.50 for a bottle of water now, Fuddy. That's up $2.50 in the past month. The darn thing is twice what I can eat in one sitting. I do enjoy the leftovers, but I'd rather just have a smaller, single meal portion at a lower cost. Food costs are up across the board, but they're not up that much. Could be with fewer customers (CV19 don't ya know), they have to pass on their fixed costs to fewer people just so they can stay in business.

Made a little more room to work by stashing a spare fuel tank up in the rafters, after wrapping it in foam to keep it from getting dinged. Pulled the leaking tank off the red bike, and found that a socket head cap screw on the coil bracket had worn a hole in it. I made the bracket, so it's my fault, my only excuse being that it is impossible to see up under there. Also found another shiny spot on the other side where another bracket had been rubbing, so cut down both the brackets for more clearance. I had a can of POR-15 fuel tank liner already, so I cleaned up the area around the hole and put on the first of several coats of the liner that will go on over the next few days. Pulled the alternator chasing an oil leak on the same bike, and found the area where the main crank seal rubs on the rotor to be poorly machined and the seal looking pretty ragged. Chucked the rotor in the lathe and polished it smooth, and will pick up a new seal when I'm in town later in the week. It's time for a new rear tire, too, so I'll take care of that today, and probably mount one on the zebra bike, while I have the mounter and balancer machines out.

The Sequoia campout that was cancelled a few weeks ago has been moved to a place down near Paso Robles the weekend after next. It's a very pretty area in the Coast Ranges, half way between L.A. and S.F. Lots of good roads coming and going, too, so I'm hoping to make up for all the slab riding I did on the aborted trip a couple weeks ago. Meanwhile in Sequoia National Park, the lightning fires that started several weeks ago are reaching some of the giant sequoia groves. Firefighters are wrapping trees and buildings with fireproof blankets, and setting up portable sprinkler systems to stop the flames. They're also using a goodly number of controlled burns to clear out years of accumulated brush and dander, something that should have been done all along.

Roy changed to Firefox long time ago, never messed with edge
I use Chrome too, but Edge is the default (which can be changed). I was OK with Edge until this last "upgrade" which wasn't optional

Waiting for the hospital to call to set up a CAT scan.

finished my gravestone scrubbing this morning just as skies opened up with boomers.
Before and after looks good, biocide takes several weeks to fully work, like killing the moss inside the letters

one thing I learned before ordering headstones in this climate was to get ones with finished tops, not natural rough.
the rough stuff holds all the algae and moss, nooks and crannys like one of Thomas's english muffins.

Not having a spouse to stick with all these dreadful details when I pass, I had my
own headstone made and put in next to her. All they have to do is fill in the date.
Going to happen to all of us. Might as well get it done.

all our cemetery gravestones are restricted in size and style. The graveyard was meant to be "plain".
We honor our grandparents and their grandparents buried here by keeping it that way.
But oh what a challenge. We weathered the solar light attack, then the sparkly spinners, and always a challenge
to keep the flags out of there. Flags have become political. We take all flags out after Labor Day and everyone knows it.
Otherwise there is a flag competition between the POW/MIA black flags, the American flags, and then the big brass war campaign markers.
Must keep in mind this church honors peace. There are plenty of places locally that honor war.
Almost all honoring is good, it's finding the appropriate spots for it that creates discussion.

And you will all be proud of me when I was on the Trustee committee overseeing this graveyard for at least 20 years,
a local farmer died and his family planted an 8 inch long John Deere metal toy tractor right next to his gravestone.
We let it be. This used to be a farming community, that needs to be honored too.

This year's challenge was a pattipan squash plant that someone planted against the rules, about two rows over to the left of my wife's grave.
The squash was growing on them and the vines were headed for my wife. She actually would have liked it, a great gardener, but
invasive vines aren't allowed.

Good morning to all! Low was 49, overcast / cloudy, and a very brief sprinkle around sunrise. Wasn't much, nothing registered in the gauge. There is a chance of t-storms this afternoon.

I was planning on doing more of the driveway project today, but as long as there are heavy clouds, I am going to hold off. The pellet stove needs it's annual cleaning, so that might happen this morning. I have been procrastinating doing it all summer, but we're getting close to needing to fire it up over the next few weeks.

Roy, hope the hospital scheduling gets straightened out.... it just puts more strain on the patient and their families when stuff like that happens.

Mostly, no I no longer have frequent ortho doc visits. Next one is in 6 months. He completed the MMI (maximum medical improvement) and rated me at a 25% disability with restrictions. Still stuck in limbo.... I definitely can't perform my duties as a paramedic on the streets, so just waiting to see what positions are offered / available. I may take early retirement and be done with it.....

Gonna get movin' on whatever I'm gonna do....
Everyone have a great day!

As long as the people who arrange for the plots know all the rules in advance @daugen, I’m sure your staff is fairly and equitable in enforcement.

I’m sure you keep in mind that when it comes to lost loved ones the emotions can get involved.

I would have a difficult time with the rule against any American flags on the graves of veterans. But I could understand time limits and size restrictions.

   / Good morning!!!! #139,049
biggest issue with early retirement is cost of medical insurance.
If you have a reasonable solution for that Ted, you have plenty of hobbies to keep you busy if you retire.
Clearly you could go into furniture making.

TwoBit, I hear you. I fly a flag outside my own home, always have. But this is a 300 year old cemetery with both history and rules, everyone
gets the printout of the rules when the plots are purchased.
Of course 50 years later do the grandchildren have a copy of the rules? Of course not.
So we have a number of plain but clear signs up reminding folks to not plant shrubs there, etc.
On July 4th our cemetery is ablaze with American flags and I think it's pretty cool to look at.
But for 9 months out of the year, no flags. That was the best compromise someone came up with long ago.

All the flags are picked up and recycled at local VFW. They are not disrespected.

This comes home to me when I have to haul off plastic flowers my ancient MIL left for my wife.
And I told her this would happen...
So I get it on the emotions.

67°F and .17 inches rain.

There was an unplanned bonus to yesterday’s events. Took the dealer shuttle to Walmart during our extended wait. One of our intended stops to pickup a few things. Decided to take advantage and get our flu shots. Senior level of course.

Asked Pharmacist about Moderna booster. Said she didn’t really have any info but was expecting it would be another 4-6 weeks.

Need to check Mule status. Dealer is closed Sun & Mon.

All you biker guys be safe out there. Found out our friend, Jim in Wisconsin is in hospital after an incident involving a deer. Lost his spleen, but luckily didn’t reinjure healings from accident 2 years ago. He is my age.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Getting cloudy with a t-storm predicted around 6 pm...as I listen to the roofing crew ripping the shingles off my roof above me. Met their delivery truck at 7:30am to unload the pallets of shingles, underlayment, etc. I don't know who invented those piggyback forklifts, but it's genius...5 pallets unloaded in less than half an hour and the driver was gone. The driver told me he used to have to unload every bundle of shingles by hand.

I just found one spot by the ridge vent that looks like it's been the source of my earlier leak. Contract calls for $70 per sheet of plywood replaced. They said it would take 3 days to complete...they would only uncover the amount of roof each day that they can replace. Fingers crossed as sprinkles begin to fall since I started typing this.

Roy, so sorry to hear about your wife's fall and ankle. I know you'll take good care of her.

Scaredy...hope you are doing better...prayers said for those ailing.

Kyle, sounds like a great birthday celebration!

RNG, hope you get to do the Paso Dobles at the Paso Robles. 😁

Ron, the hawks here have returned to hunting at our feeders, too...last couple of days we've seen the red tail and the sharp shinned twice...the red tail landed right at our porch step where the chipmunk hangs out.

Randy, this is the last week of fantasy baseball and all 3 of my teams are in the final championship round...but I may need the name of your grandson in a few years as a rookie selection. (y)

Met my oldest son down at the farm in southeast Virginia yesterday at 6:30am...he wanted to show me some work he had done over the summer with his chainsaw, some friends, and eventually with a buddy who took his track loader-mulcher down...some very nice trails made through the woods and some new deer stands.

On the way home stopped by the cemetery where my dad, sister, and generations of relatives rest. I always pause look at the born/died dates and think about their lives and how fortunate I am to have had them in my life. Then look up at the American Flag that waves proudly from its 30 high pole with a thankful tear in my eye.

Wngsprd,
Hope roofers beat the rain. Usually September is a good month for roofing, but lots of storms this year.
I stopped at cemetery (graveyard) where mom is buried on my last trip home. Needed mowed. I like it when people put flags at the grave, but understand the maintenance headaches.

Last Sunday a motorcyclist was killed in downtown Chico when an 18 year old driver ran a redlight at an intersection. Security cam footage showed the driver was looking away from his direction of travel, and didn't even see the light, let alone the rider. Why the motorcyclist didn't see the guy and take preventive action, we'll never know. Maybe he was never taught to. Deer are another thing entirely. One of the few things over which you have no control, and usually very little warning before they run into you or offer their bodies in front of you for target practice. Hope your friend is gonna be OK, but there's a LOT of deer in Wisconsin...

60F and clear @ 20:00, headed down to 48F for the overnight low. High hit 75F today.

Put pallet forks on Kubota first thing and went up and finished 4th firewood pallet and then shrink-wrapped all four:

IMG_1356 copy.jpg

While we were doing that the Amazon driver arrived and dropped off the new battery for the hedge trimmer.

Afterwards went back down to the house and hooked the dump cart to the Cub and took four 5 gallon buckets around back to be cleaned out (tomorrow), along with the other 8 that are already back there.

Grabbed the adjustable rake and pitchfork and then went around and met up with The Woman at the forsythia bush in the west planting bed. Dropped the cart and turned her loose on trimming it back and I headed off to mow the rest of the lawn on the east side.

After I finished with the mowing I came over and helped her finish up the trimming and then hauled the trimmings up to the burn pile.

At that point she was about to head off for a haircut, so I came in and ate some spaghetti she had warmed up for dinner.

After dinner I started working on screening more compost, started a second pile of screened material:

At the point my right leg started going numb, I went over and started building another pallet of firewood. Wasn't too long after that She came rolling down the driveway with her ears lowered. She went down to the house to dry her hair and then came back up to help finish that 5th pallet, which we did:

Held off on any more pressure washing today, to give the ground a chance to dry out. Probably get back to it on Thursday:

Darn, that brings back memories.
In '73, right after I graduated from college at UVM, three of us hitched to California.
We ended up staying at a youth hostel in Santa Cruz for maybe a week or so. Every morning, and most afternoons we would eat 2 or 3 burritos at the beach. They were like 25 cents each from a just opened taco stand near the beach, and water was free.
Considering the minimum wage was $1.65 back then that represented about 10 minutes of work/burrito. Today with the minimum wage about $14 that would translate to about $2.50 for a Taco Bell burrito.
