My electric company did not get the memo that this July was the hottest on record. According to my bill, the average July 2021 temp for July was 73. A year ago in July 2020 it was 78. For some reason I believe the utility company. They don't have an environmental axe to grind if the temp is high or low.

Well, here, for example, we have mandatory recycling. So this county can claim that 100% of households participate in recycling. Now drive down the street on recycle day. Many don't have the bins at the curb. Look in the bins. Many are very empty. Look in their trash. Plenty of recyclable items that aren't put in the trash. Look in their driveway. Plenty of large vehicles that are unnecessary. Look in their windows. Many lights are on. Look in their yards. Most have all night security lights. Go to the grocery store. More trucks and SUVs than cars in the lot. Go in the winter. Most of the diesels are idling away. The list goes on and on.

Yes, some conscientious people do try and be as un-wasteful as possible, most do not on a meaningful level.
We have 3 bins
1. General trash
2. plastic and aluminum bottles cans, etc.
3. cardboard.

Our esteemed trash collection company collects everything in 1 truck (previous trash company had 2 separate trucks).
Theres 2 compactor bins in the current truck. They take bin#2 and put it in one compactor bin. They put #1 & #3 together in the other compactor bin.

So everyone dutifully separates the cardboard (#3) from the general trash (#1) and the trash collectors throw it all in the same compactor bin. Lol

Ok Kev, I sat through the video finally. :p

Fairly well crafted arguments. Honestly, somewhat compelling. Some quick thoughts:
- No data was actually hidden, though. He was easily able to obtain it from public sources, after all. One would certainly hope that professionals, scientists, and policy makers will do their basic research and understand trends beyond the narrow confines of a chopped summary document.
- Sometimes there are legitimate reasons to constrain a trend chart to a certain range. For example, emissions of aerosols did have a real effect on keeping global surface temperatures cooler in the '30s-70s before we curtailed them with regulation. So trends since then are arguably more important.
- The video makers examples were rather narrow.
No one is blaming all current sea level rise on human activity alone. We know that increased global temps will melt more ice, so future sea level rise is FEARED to be worsening. It's not an instant feedback loop. But one only need look to the artic sea to observe a rapidly changing situation over the last decade. It kind of looks like the trend is increasing lately to me. For the majority of adults who agree that human carbon emissions are helping raise global temperatures, its a very easy connection to see how this will accelerate going forward.

- 90 degree days in a random little Ohio town? awesome. How about 100 degree days in Phoenix? Sure looks like a trend here:

Look at the under 32F and over 110F days too. Sh*t is changing, man.

So look, surely there are climate alarmists who are exaggerating their positions to win the battle of public opinion and bring investment to their cause. I wish they wouldn't. Personally, when I examine the data sources of the climate deniers/skeptics, they are much easier to disprove, or trace their funding directly to the fossil fuel industry, who obviously has a vested interest in disagreement on climate change.

I must always acknowledge the possibility of my own confirmation bias. I promise you guys that I really do try to always look at data sources and the motivations behind them. I don't have time to refute everyone's points in here... usually there are some allies willing to pull up the data as well lol.

In a related tangent, the past 2 years has seen my opinion of medical and pharmaceutical science change dramatically - and not for the better. Stay objective, folks.
Hey man, couple of stories and my apologies.

I saw a story just the other day; looks like the cost of living increase for our folks on social security might be significant. I have my opinions on why we are looking at inflation, as I'm sure most others do as well, but, not the point. The story made me laugh so hard I nearly cried, the point was, based on the cost of the cola increase, we should probably find a new way to calculate cola!!!!
Not what do we do about inflation, not what can we do the reduce the impact on people that have worked all of their lives and paid into a mandatory system, but how can we screw them out of the cost of living increase they deserve. It was nearly the damnedest thing I have ever read.

Back to topic. Science was, and still should be pure. As trivial as we really are in the history of the earth, our accomplishments are astounding.

In the day of our founding fathers I believe politics had some purity as well. By and large they we folks that had made a good life, and certainly could of had comfortable lives under kings rule. They put ideals ahead of personal gain, and we were gifted the best society to date.

I still believe in the scientific method, but at this time, I don't believe anything is above abuse.

What seems like forever ago, politicians found they could exist under a set of rules that differs dramatically from the ones normal citizens live under. We lost accountability entirely. Cumo literally killed elderly folks with poor policy decisions. I don't believe he committed a crime, but certainly immediate removal and whatever additional civil penalties would seem obvious, right? Nope, only because he would be a pain to campaign around, we go the only thing that never fails, find a couple of gals that will say he told an off color joke, and patted them on the shoulder, and he is gone like a shot in the night............. Little sensitivity training and he will be broadcasting for a living inside a year.

There is nothing wrong with the desire to be a good steward and take care of our home. It's when it gets in the hands of the people that have discovered they can do absolutely nothing for their constituents, write unlimited checks for themselves and their friends, and abuse any situation for their agenda. Where it goes to crap.

I was frustrated, just like the cola story, if seems there is some magic number (700 maybe) that once a person hears a trusted source/sources say it, it is true. Makes no difference how ridiculous it is, or how obviously self serving it is, say it 700 times and 60% of us believe.

It is frustrating to be a single, generally unknow source that isn't ready to put methane filters on the cows butts, and dump my machines and get a bike.

I appreciate you taking the time to read my junk and reply, certainly nothing personal, Be more fun to sort this on the porch with drink, your always welcome.

Best,,

ed

2 things about trash

1. I've lived in 2 communities that required recycling. Both were caught dumping everything in the land fill. the local politicians said.....because it's cheaper. reporter says...then why force people to do it? guy says...it makes people feel better. sad thing is, it's true.

2. I had no idea we shipped so much garbage over seas to anyone who will take it. japanese have been doing the same with their nuke waste for years. NIMBY

Great song about that called...Do You Want A Job

2 of the many reasons i hate the govt.

Why do people think that anyone disputing the cause is also disputing the effect?
Great question. Kinda related to the ugly names (racist, etc) you get called for merely questioning the cause.

Theres almost zero climate change in my area. Everything looks the same except for the Asian bugs like emerald ash borers and stink bugs and the invasive weeds/trees that have settled in nicely and destroyed our natural flora balance.
One fellow TBNer posted (paraphrasing) “oh great, there’s no climate change in YOUR area, so there’s no global climate change”.
No, never said that. Just noting that there’s no noticeable climate change in my area. Does that make me a denier or a racist?
Nope.
But we have to stop with the personal destruction of people who merely question the politically agenda science. We need unbiased, accurate science.

Lol no, I don't care about the town size. My point was that the video maker cherry picked his location to find a trend that fit his viewpoint. So I easily did the opposite in 10 seconds of searching. But again, if you do this across the entire planet... and average it out.... its a clear increasing trend in surface temperatures.

My point exactly, I cherry picked a location, same as the video dude did. But see my response to plowhog above. We have the data.... across the entire planet... it's warming. Not really up for debate. The why is what we can debate. If the climate alarmists are wrong, whats main downside that you are concerned about? Some more regulation on your business and personal vehicles? Taxes? Genuinely curious.

If the climate alarmists are right, on the other hand, you guys are obstructing the only chance we have to save this planet from a lot of human suffering. It's worth protecting our air, just in case.
