Wyoming already taxes EV's based on mileage. Taxes are set at a vehicle getting 15MPG. So, no EV for me.

Hey that all rhymes!
Alabama levies a flat $200 surcharge on EVs.

When it becomes profitable.

Also, anyone ever take a rental car back without filling it up first? YIKES! They'll gouge you for fuel. Will you have to take an electric rental back fully charged?

On that note, back in May we rented a car, and they've changed the policy to bring it back with the same amount of fuel it left with. My guess is that someone figured out if you send it out with 5/8 of a tank, most people will overfill it past 5/8 a couple gallons, and in the long run, renter over-fills will mean more dollars for the rental car company.
i rented cars for a long time. my guess is most rentals are business related and most that is on the expense account, someone else is paying so they choose for the "let the rental car fill it up" option. i paid my own expenses so, i filled up prior to returning.

in Seattle once i spent 5 minutes at a gas station just trying to figure out how to open the gas door. the station was directly across from the rental car office so i called them and told them to send over a tech to open the gas door. they laughed and told me to just bring it back and not to worry about the gas, common problem on that model.

This 8 minute clip points out the issues of getting EVS to the public. Tesla stated plan is to be producing 20 million EVS a year by 2030. Producing that number of EVS is doable the question mark is will they come with or without batteries.

Personally I'm sold on the newer LFP chemistry having personally experienced the issues that the Nissan Leaf batteries have.

Having an EV battery that can charge to 100% and discharge to 0% without damaging it is phenomenal. Having the same battery with the potential to charge to 100% and discharge to 0% for 10,000 cycles is an awesome plus.

EV batteries must be designed for dummies.

Tesla will be battery constrained for many years to come.

This is mind blowing but my mind is easy to blow. I have been truly struggling to see how EV batteries would ever be a long-term solution.

Sorry about that. As an info searcher my brain blows out the crap to get to the gold nuggets. :)

Jump to 3:30 to get to the gold.

Seems like 50 years in the future, battery pollution will be headline news.
Ill be takin a dirt nap, but still don’t want to know lithium is in all the drinking water.

No need to wait

But that type of energy is being eviscerated and replaced by windmills and solar panels.
Oh wait, I forgot it takes coal to recharge the EV batteries because solar and wind can’t do it.
Nukes baby.

Renewables and natural gas are putting coal out of its misery (and ours). RIP Dirty Coal. Nukes are fine as long as they can find a place to safely store the nuclear waste.

Great so we will have the existing coal and the new electronics and battery waste problem.
France is 75% nuclear energy
Maybe we could learn that we can power our future that is American made instead of unboxing solar panels from a nation vowing to take over the world? Or not building wind turbines that destroy migrating birds and end up buried in landfills like giant dinosaur bones.

If we had continued researching the technology rather than hiding with our heads in the sand after 3MI, a lot of the problems with nukes would have been solved. When trying to envision what it could be like in 50 years I like to think back on the changes which we've seen since 1971. Every solution creates 10 problems.

Funny.

I once borrowed a friends Harley V-Rod.

Decided to return it with a full tank.

Couldn’t for the life of me find the gas fill cap.

Always had bikes with the gas cap easily seen on the tank.

Called him and asked.

Turns out it was under the seat.

Getting the seat up was yet another adventure.

I believe solar power has unlimited potential, as does ocean tide turbines; but wind? Not so much.
According to my Environmental Science professor, tidal energy is too limited...very specific geological situations must exist...like in the Bay of Fundy.

Solar is only efficient in certain latitudes.

I don't mind supplementing with those, but nuclear is our current best option that is not fossil fuel.

I am still a proponent of using all options.

Where will you safely store the spent fuel? Maybe Wyoming will take that on?
