How can I be sure the check will be good?

I started this thread asking about selling a piece of equipment to a stranger. Cars and trucks are different than tractors and excavators when it comes to legally buying and selling.

And this is not about politics. There is some good discussion going on here about my original question. Please keep the politics out so that this good discussion does not get shut down.

Thanks!

I stopped reading it after page one, but checked in because you had posted. Apparently you haven't sold your equipment yet, but do you have a plan?

OK... so what are you accepting as payment? Answer that; Then we can all stop bothering with the thread.

I will take my banker's advice. I will ask for cash. If the buyer doesn't want cash, I will require a wire transfer.

I will take a check if I know and trust the buyer, or if they bank at my bank, or if it's a well known business.

Okay, good. You have it worked out.

Now we can go back to police qualified immunity. Which is not politics, by the way.

You know, the conversation about forfeiture, got me thinking, I always carry large sums of money on me, I pay cash most of the time. I also guess I need to find a better hiding place than my mattress. Now I'm more worried about cops knowing how much money I have on hand than I am thieves.
Ain’t that the truth….what bizarre times in which we live.

Lol. I have lived in most of the states that have no income tax. The few I haven't I have family in.

If you are meeting the buyer, go to *their* bank. Your bank has no way to tell if the check is good until it it clears their bank. This is why they usually put a 5-15 day hold on large checks anyways.
I always wonder why it takes 5-15 days to electronically get funds into your account, but milliseconds for funds to go the other way.

I am glad the subject of police stealing cash came up. I had heard of it before but I never had any reason to read up on it. This link and this paragraph tells it well. And another reason to reign in qualified immunity besides all of the other BS methods cops use these days.

Although forfeiture is intended to deter criminal activity, the simple truth is that seizures also produce revenue for law enforcement agencies. As a result, some police departments and prosecutors use forfeiture aggressively, even when there is little evidence of wrongdoing.
