$2.59- $2.79 regular in College Station depending where you get it.

It won't be long before some states start charging taxes on electric vehicles to recoup monies lost.

They've been talking about that for a while now. One "solution" was to put a GPS in every vehicle so that they can keep track of where how much you drive. That must have gone over like the proverbial faht in church, because I can't find anything about it now.
I do feel though, that people who use the roads should pay their fair share.

We pay a $50 excise fee for our hybrid and Indiana charges $150 excise fee of $150 for electric vehicles. They've been doing that since 2017.

A college coach once told me —- “fair is a place where they give ribbons to pigs”.

They should go by mileage. Simple. Every year for your annual tag or inspection, just have the tax assessor read your mileage and charge you accordingly.

Here in Texas, we pay $0.49 per gallon tax. So if you have a cybertruck, you would figure a comparable truck to get 15/19 mpg and charge accordingly.

If you drove it 10,000 miles in a year, then (10000/17mpg)* .49 = $288 tax

Many people live near a state border, and drive varying amounts in two or more states.

I just took delivery on a 2021 F150, I have no concerns at all.
Well, you are the ”solitary man”.
Lots of others do though, running vehicles and equipment that consumes fuel which is up 50-60%.

When I was travelling, I would make it a point over several trips to get gas in each state I went through. That's at least part of the funding they use to pay for the roads which I was using.

I drive a lot in Missouri and Southern Illinois.

Missouri gas tax is $.17/gallon. Illinois gas tax is $.392/gallon. Illinois is the third highest gas tax in the country.

MO gas is $2.80. Illinois gas is $3.15.

I never buy gas in Illinois. Never as in never ever.

I wish it worked that way.

I drive between CA and NV a lot. CA collects taxes for road maintenance but diverts some of what was collected for other things. On almost any highway in/out of CA, you can tell when you left the State because the road improves.

I installed a 60gal fuel tank in my GMC Duramax. I drive quite a bit in CA, but *never* fuel there. Always buy fuel in NV.

...
To that I ask, "What annual tag or inspection?"

Many states have neither. Some have one or the other. Some have emissions inspections. Some have safety inspections. Some have both safety and emissions inspections. Indiana has no safety inspections and only has emissions inspections in two counties up in the extreme NW corner of the state that border Chicago.

So there's gonna be that coming along when it comes time to do metered road tax VS fuel tax if it ever comes to it.

PA actually made a slight improvement in inspections about 5 years ago. CDL registered trucks were required to be inspected semi-annually which is absurd. Now it’s annual. Dagging my trucks in for semi-annual inspection was A PITA

I remember safety inspections in Indiana when I was a kid. My dad would have to take the car in to a local shop once a year that was a state inspection facility. Pretty much EVERY shop was a state inspection facility. And the system was corrupt. That's why it went away.

It's up then it's down; I just go with the flow.
I bet 10/20 is the last time we ever see $1.99 gas or diesel.
Say hello to the new world, where inflation reigns supreme and scarcity runs rampant

Argentina from 1975-1990. It’s unfortunate people don’t learn from history. It’s well documented why Argentina had 300% annual inflation during that time —- they printed money w/o paying attention to fiscal policy.

People do learn... Governments, not so much.

It’s insane that other governments can’t learn from the Venezuelan example and now the Cuban example. It’s so fresh and recent. I think other governments are so arrogant that they think they can do it better. It starts out so promising for everyone and 50 years later people are eating each other’s body parts.

Just finished my new driveway. Installed lots of conduit for hi/lo voltage electric and water. My excavator said all the conduit was triple the price from a year ago.
