Your comment was fine. It was what I wrote, then deleted which crossed over the lines.
Makes more sense.

Perhaps along the same reasons why in hindsight, my father in law, who had lived in Vermont all his life and whose family had been in that state since the 1700's, didn't have a hard transition to retire to NC with him being what my wife called him as a "true Vermonter".

Seems that most all areas have some type of "gun totting", irritated folks. Look at the ranchers(Cliven Bundy) in the stand off in Wyoming five years ago.

I don't know if that situation has been resolved yet. It says they are still using federal land to range their cattle.

I wouldn't say a group of 11 was the "biggest" as the OP stated. In the past, there have been much larger groups of them.

I have problems with a lot of our laws. I've worn my seat belt religously since 1980 when I was at a junkyard pulling a radio, and saw what a shoulder did to the door of an F-100. Yet when they became mandatory I stopped wearing mine for several months.
I hate cigarettes; yet don't believe that the government should be able to tell people they can't allow smoking in their privately owned stores. It's my choice to go there, if I don't like it I could and did go someplace else. I also always wore my helmet when riding a MC... yet don't believe in helmet laws.

Not certain what I refered to as the "biggest" per this story, but I do think it would be hard to find a "biggest" group of idiots.

We're on the same page.

I honestly did't see my comment as being political, but just a fact.

About 15 years ago, even when married I had issues with wearing a seat belt at times driving by myself. I don't believe in seat belt laws but yes, I do believe they save lives overall. I didn't like getting tickets for seat belt infractions, but I paid my fine and moved on.

I don't look at a forum as a mean to complain about laws or turn those laws political (particularly here), but the reality is you can't ignore them if they are a central part of the story posted.

Do I agree with some state laws on guns? No I don't. That said, I obey them.
Interstate transport of firearms isn't governed by the States. It is governed by the Feds abd they have specific laws about it. States can, and often do, have their own restrictions in place. But most civilized States just use the Federal standards.

If you're from Florida (or anywhere else for that matter) and have a carry permit, stay out of Maryland. They have (and have for a while) license plate readers that, somehow, can determine if you have a carry permit.

And if you do, you are more likely to be pulled over and searched by their State Stasi than people without a carry permit. I don't believe they, along with several other States that lean in a certain political direction (the usual suspects), reciprocate with other States CCW permits.

And they will ruin your life. They like it. That's just how they role.

Read this and beware:

Wearing a seat belt? I remember when cars didn't even have them. I resisted them at first but after I got used to them, I kindda like them. Especially when you have a bit of a 'performance' car. One that will handle a turn better than Grandma's Station Wagon. They help plant you in the seat in turns.

Correct, yes it was.
The article I got the info from was trying to make the point that 5,000 merchant marines died in a 6 month period just few miles from shore in ‘43 at the hands of the Wolfpack and it was mostly hidden from American news media.
A lot of things were hidden from the news media back then including Weather Reports. The news media is what they is. They've always been that way. Just a matter of degree.

In hindsight, the outcome of WWII seems like a foregone conclusion but to the people of the US at the time, it was anything but.

Common sense dictates that if your traveling out of state with a firearm, stay out of these states, or make certain you're driving legal with firearms stored separately from ammo (NOT in a magazine) in LOCKED containers where the firearm isn't readily available (which can be open for interpretation being part of the issue depending on the type of vehicle).

In no particular order. If you get screwed in Maryland, won't be any worse than Jersey, NY or California.

1 - Mayland
2 - Jersey
3 - New York
4 - Massachusetts
5 - California
6 - Connecticut
7 - Rhode Island
8 - Washington State (not DC surprisingly)

I threw in Connecticut, Rhode Island and Washington State from date from the Giffords law Scorecard.

In the case he cites above, the motorist's firearm was in his gun safe in Florida. He was stopped because of his CCW permit; crossreferenced to his license plate number.
