Hi folks...what do you recommend for a mower that is rugged enough to cut a field, high grass. I have a brush hog but it never cuts clean and neat as it is not designed for that. ive seen sickle bars enough and flail mowers. Are the 3 blade finish type mowers capable of mowing thick grass etc.?? thanks

I'm running a 72" land pride 3 blade rfm. I let my grass grow up to 12-24" before cutting it down to 4". But I'm in the sierra foothills so while the grass can grow tall, it's not very thick or wet.

If ground smooth no sapling etc. and you want somewhat gulf coarse look finish mower, but it will take longer to cut compare to flail mower.

Ok on that..don't care about golf course look but brush hog leaves uncut areas and not a clean cut look... and i understand it is not supposed to... thanks

assume you keep your current blades sharp (for a bh) and straight, not bent & bunged up

yes in fact brand new blades and still get a unfinished look. I usually go over some parts more than once. Maybe im driving too fast

Have you try mowing using 3/4 of the deck, also mow one way than back the other?
Think the travel speed might be the issue?
