This opinion piece is from the UK. Until recently I never thought about car tires being a source of pollution for the planet.

My cousin is a researcher in water quality. 20+ years ago he got a contract from Caltrans for a study of the effect of tire rubber going into San Francisco Bay. I never heard the final result, but I expect a little digging online would find his conclusions, and others'.

The reason for hiring the study was concern that water quality was affected. I talked to him early in the project. At that point he hadn't shown that the particles were more than just inert mass.

More recently the concern over SF Bay and the related Delta, is for the tiniest fish that are the foundation for sustaining larger aquatic life - salmon, etc. The recent concern about microplastics might use his findings about quantity and location, and build on that for a more comprehensive model of what's going on.

Sometime ago I read where someone was proposing or stating that would be possible to tunnel to Alaska go under the straits over to Russia and back down to China and we could have shipping by ground to and from China and the United States. This would sound like a nice project for electric self-driving trucks.

Ya, and I doubt earthquakes up in that region won’t effect any tunnels. I would never venture into that hole. I have been deep down in a gold mine shaft years ago...freaked me out to no end. I was installing a control panel for mine elevator. That was the first and only time I went down that far, and told boss never again.

I have a 218K mile 2010 Ford F-150 Lariat with the 10K tow package that I bought 3 years ago for $7,400. It stays Parked unless hauling or towing for the most part because I don't want to put it at risk of an accident without cause.

F150's are popular with early morning retired coffee drinkers and often are newer Lariets or better. They are not work trucks. $60K Lightings will be popular and look huge parked on each side of my Leaf.

You can’t make this stuff up. Close American energy and production and give it to other countries. Pure insanity.
Whether the environmental issues are true or not and their actual environmental impact is debatable. We DO know for a fact that economic collapse (another depression) WILL result in death & destruction. We learned that 90 years ago.
Looks like we are headed in that direction again. Certainly NOT economic prosperity. We will never learn.
We cant even invent a “catastrophe“ and build the solar panels and windmills HERE so we can at least get some economic prosperity out of it!

EPA has tried to find fault with used tire rubber and failed but for tires that are still intact.

Tires rot in the sun. Tire dust rots faster. Almost impossible to detect roadside unless you are at a race track and then you can sweep it up with a broom. No hazard in dump.
