How long before Compact Diesels are obsolete?

I take it you think an electric motor lasts forever. I work on industrial motors for many years. They do wear out. And these are motors that run far shorter time than an automobile will.
Never said they last forever, I'm just going by what Tesla is estimating which is an average 500,000 mile lifespan for the motors they use. Even if it was only half that it would still almost double today's average lifespan for a gasoline powered passenger car engine which is around 150,000 miles. Tesla's Model S battery/drivetrain warranty is 8 years and 150,000 miles, during which no maintenance is required other than for brakes and the AC.

I mow about 7 acres every week for 6 months out of the year and have been doing it with a gas powered ZTR for 4 years. Each mow takes at least an additional hour of trimming and blowing and whatnot, all done with battery powered electrics, and I've never had a single problem with any of it. I did have to buy a new battery for some of the old Greenworks stuff I bought 5 years ago but it was only $50 off Amazon and it can power 6 different pieces of equipment. I spend more than that each month just buying gas for the mower.

Where are you getting your information that gas engines die at 150k miles? That’s far from the truth.

Google.com. The top result is this which states:

While there is no absolute rule when it comes to how long engines will last, there are a few general figures that can give you a rough idea about what to expect from your car. For some time, the average lifespan of a car’s engine was eight years, or 150,000 miles. New designs, better technology and improved service standards in recent years have increased this average life expectancy to about 200,000 miles, or about 10 years.”

Of course estimates vary because no one keeps actual stats, plus lifespan for an ICE are incredibly dependent on all that maintenance always being done correctly and always being done at all the right intervals, but if you have data regarding “the truth” please share. You won’t find anyone who would even dream of claiming the average passenger car ICE will go anywhere close to 500,000 miles as Tesla officially claims for their motors, but even if they did all of that completely misses the point anyway.

150,000 mi...really. thats when i changes the spark plugs on my gasoline engine. i think your comfusing 1970 engines with todays units. my truck now has 330,000 miles on it by the way.

I have seen Mercedes Benz cars with over 1 million
miles on and a lot of them with over 500 thousand
miles. IMHO the diesel tractors are going to be like
mr choo choo! mini diesels that run generators for electric motors for go go! How ever I really don't see an electric tractor in the very near future as they can ever get a battery that will be small enough the contain all the power to run an electric tractor so I don't even think about it. The diesel engines that mr choo choo has read the pistons are 9 to 10 inches and weight 50 lbs hernia time!

Yeah for a car perhaps. But are you really gonna trailer your tractor to any "ubiquitous" point just to replace a battery that you didn't get 6 hrs of work out of?
It certainly isn't going to be just the size of a car battery.
A Tesla battery weighs half a ton.
You'd need about 30 ninety year old women.

No, I'll put the discharged battery in the pickup bed. Or have my own charging station (more likely).

I've already got two 90 year old gals, I'll have to look around for 28 more, wish me luck.

You're lucky to have the two.
I have a 96 yr old aunt who welded in WW II. She could teach me a few things.
And good luck lifting that battery. (who are we kidding, we'll never see this in our life times)
I think we're talking about different tractors. I see lawn tractors battery powered and soon.
But if I need to drag out a 4000 lb oak tree with my 5000 lb tractor, that might take a while for the proper battery.

Exactly. The last vehicle I sold had over 300k with the stock transmission behind it. Claiming a gas vehicle that was built in the last 20 years that’s had even averagely poor maintenance only last 150k miles is bs. Assuming they aren’t wreaked or suffer some other owner induced failure they’ll go 300k plus.

The batteries are still not there. There will not be a change over until batteries can hold bigger and longer charge times.

No matter how much people want...the physics of election storing is not going to replace anything anytime soon.

We need to harness the energy of splitting of atoms...then it will change.

I amazed at how sure people are that certain things can't be done!

Manufacturer s sure seem to think they will. Audi/VW is ending development on all ICE engines except the one they use in competition.
