Good MorningIts 50 headed to 70 with cloudy, but dry skies.

Yesterday was another great day, spent a good portion of it outside after gluing up and clamping a speaker.

I replaced the vacuum pump on my little plane, I’m pretty confident that the installation was designed by an engineer that caught his wife sleeping with a mechanic. 3 out of the four mounting nuts are fairly accessible, but putting a wrench on the 4th one? My hands were a bloody mess before I was finished. My hands are nowhere near as tough as they were when I was younger. But it’s done.

Today’s project will be getting the fountain in the pond, hopefully I’ll stay dry.

Searched the internet for 90 minutes and didn't find an exact replacement.

This place is local to me, but I have always gotten the motor I needed from them. My guess if you send them some pictures and dimensions, they could come up with something.

I was an aircraft mechanic in the Navy. Popgadget pretty much hit the nail on the head.
Working on F-4 Phantoms was just like how he described it

I tried out my new Makita string trimmer, pretty wimpy, should have bought their larger model even if it was heavier
since handle grip on this model puts strain on my bad shoulder even with lighter weight. I need to fuss with the head on the unit and make
sure the line is coming out all the way. Might fiddle with that today since landscapers never showed up, but shoulder hurts enough that maybe not for another day.
Does Makita offer a shoulder harness that would help take some of the weight off your arms, Drew? Stihl does, and there are lots of options on Amazon, too. Maybe you could adapt one to your Makita?

51° right now...high in the low 70's today.
Well, sent the taxes in yesterday...Grrrrrrrr!!

Tried to get the Flail mower rigged to the 4052, but one side of the mower was much lower then the other side...low enough the 3PH was too high at it's lowest travel. I'm not sure what happened there since it was dropped off my old 4520 with no problems last Fall. Maybe the ground settled (the mower is actually setting on some boards, not directly on the ground). I'll lift the lower side with the loader today. Should have done it yesterday, but I'd lent my lift lug to my neighbor a week or so back and he wasn't home yesterday. So, that's a chore for today. Of course, my tree-hugger stepdaughter insists I don't mow the field yet as there's a lot of small critters down there just emerging. If time permits, I'll just hit the area I shoot and leave the rest be for a couple weeks. I'll grant her, there's a lot of peepers and other small critters down there right now.
Speaking of my stepdaughter, she broke the water filter wrench when trying to change the filter, so a stop by Home Depot on the way home from work tomorrow is on the list. I need to stop there anyway for some 16 gauge wire (that Gator work light project I'd written about a couple weeks ago).
Did get most of the lawn mowed, so there was one success yesterday. I'll finish it and do some weed trimming today.

After mowing, I sat on the deck with our old Boxer dog, Bella. Don't think she's got much time left, and I want to give her all my time she needs

Good Morning!!!! 59F @ 5:30AM. Plenty of sunshine. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible. High around 85F. Winds S at 10 to 15 mph.

Mechanics and engineers. That's funny, Paul. The best engineers are also mechanics, the worst ones never got their hands dirty.

Spent most of yesterday finding a spot for the new water tank, then trying to lay out a square pad aligned with the property line. Tried winging it, but measuring the diagonals of my "square" showed it was way off. Had to brush up on my geometry, then got something that sure doesn't seem right looking at it on the ground, but that the tape measure says is correct. Which is why I'm hoping to have better luck with the drone this morning. The challenge there is to keep the drone out of the trees and adjacent power lines.

Very moist air coming in from the San Francisco Bay kept temperatures mild yesterday, and put a haze above that moderated the sun as well. It was a good day to be outside. Just wished I'd have had enough time to get the pad scraped with the box blade while the humidity is up. Once all the dead grass is off the area, I can relax a little about sparking a fire.

Thanks for the trimmer line recommendations, Rick. New head should be delivered today, new line sometime next week. I have three or four reels to get me by until the new stuff shows up, but if previous experience is any guide, I'll be going through a lot of it and putting the new bump feed to a test.

Hope everyone enjoys their Sunday.

Long day yesterday, watching a big crew putting a new roof on this house. I knew they had asked to do it on a Saturday and I think I know why. . . they brought the little kids with them.:) I know at least one was pre-school age, but that little scamp was up on the roof, carrying trash to the front edge and throwing it down into the dumpster. And he was later down on the ground, picking up debris, and I never heard anyone telling him what to do. The wind came up which I guess made it a little cooler for workers, but also scattered debris. But I think they did an excellent job of putting on a new roof AND they did an excellent job of clean up afterwards. So they were here from just after 7 a.m. until nearly 6 p.m.; gone for just over an hour for lunch.

A few days ago, I went to pay one of my credit card bills and discovered a T-Mobile charge for more than $150.00. I have nothing to do with T-Mobile and have no idea how such a charge got on there. I first tried calling T-Mobile to see if they could tell me anything, but I never even succeeded in finding a way to talk to a human. But when I called the credit card folks, that charge was removed with no questions.
Thanks for letting us know about T-mobil. I'm about to kick Boost mobil to the curb. In store person was useless. Phone sometimes won't send or recieve text messages at all, or sometimes you get a flood of incoming all at once (that were late)....
Wife kinda gave me ok to buy a mower , was thinking the Betstco 48 heavy duty, this will semi-retire the simplicity to working only in the smaller areas and hauling tools. Can only buy one mower, so hopefully this will cover the still being opened trails and the grass areas too.
Maybe you are out of the doghouse now....hopefully for a long time.
RNG a little bit of good news on the vaccine and why the CDC lifted the mask mandate for those vaccinated.
1. It is also effective on at least two variants.
2. The small % of those vaccinated and still get the virus symptoms are diminished and almost no fatalities.
3. And the biggie - Those vaccinated cannot spread the virus.
This is much different news than posted a couple weeks ago. More inline with what I had been reading.

Like RNG said, maybe a shoulder harness to help carry the weight. Prayers for your pain.

Mostly, glad to hear about the wifey's situation. Prayers.

I too, mixed up a concoction and sprayed the yard. Hoping to kill weeds, bahia grass and dallis grass. So far, it seems to be working on Bahia well, and dallis too.

On Friday afternoon, The wifey and I were rear ended on the freeway in Houston. All the traffic had been stop and go, but had started moving about 25-30 again. I was just driving with the flow and BAM!!! At first, I thought maybe an 18 wheeler wasn't able to stop. I looked in the rear view mirror to see 2 black guys in a Hyundai Elantra. Uh-oh. I put on the flashers and moved off the freeway, them following. He admitted he had looked down at his phone. He was not hostile in the least, gladly. I asked him if he and his passenger were alright and he said yes. His car kind of made a glancing blow after the initial Bam, lifting our rear and his going under. I estimate him to had been going at least 20-30mph faster than we were. We got jolted hard, but both of us had been looking forward, so the seats' head rest did their job, along with the rear absorption bumper. My wife's sandals had come off in the crash. I felt I'd been a couple rounds with the champ. The car was driveable, so we went to our conference (her Mother's Day present).

I've already filed with his insurance GEICO, and have an appt to take car to collision center tomorrow. The other driver admitted fault. I'm thankful he wasn't a gangster. I'm pretty sure my car will be totaled. It is my commuter car Altima, and has about 212,000 miles. Today I'm sore in my wrists, elbows, and forearms. My left palm also hurts. My wife and I were both having "brain fog" afterwards. I had a short migraine yesterday.

Any words to the wise for this matter will be accepted gladly. Here's what I forecast to be the problem. The prices of used cars has gone WAY UP! while the blue book has not yet acknowledged this fact. I'm afraid Geico will offer me fair price on blue book value, while the market prices are almost double.

I just put brand new Michelins on this thing too. The engine ran like a top, and didn't burn a drop of oil between 10,000 mile oil changes. No transmission trouble either. My insurance told me I had to first try to deal with it, and unless Geico didn't want to pay, then maybe they'll help. I wonder where uninsured/underinsured insurance takes over? Can I make them pay for the lost time I'm having to use my vacation for to deal with this?

It could have been much worse, and I'm thankful that for the most part, we are alright.

I bought the wrench. Now I can change the pump in less than 30 min. The first one my old mechanic and me took a few hours. It was the bottom one and was impossible to see what you are doing.

Got the lawn mowed and towed the flail mower to a flatter spot on the lawn (pretty close to the house)...than the rain came...went through pretty quickly though, but too wet for any trimming with the string trimmer. Reckon I'll give it an hour to dry things up...

Got an odd one here...
When I start my 4052, I give it a few seconds at low idle (1000 RPM), than increase the RPM to 1500...done that with every tractor I've owned.
Now, when I start the tractor, I get a display "Increase Engine Speed to 1500" (something like that). However, idling at 1500 RPM disables the Hitch-Assist. Even when I reduce the throttle to minimum, the speed stays at 1500 RPM. This tractor has a regen program, but the soot content is only at 31%, well under the regen requirement.
The Hitch-Assist is a pretty cool function, once the tractor is lined up properly. Reckon it's time to call the dealer on this, unless I can find something online

went out and weeded and watered the garden. Planted a few straggler left over plants and then needed a break.
And to put my sling back on...

Yes, the string trimmer has a shoulder strap. Need to put it on and try to place most of weight on good shoulder.
Hard to deal with straps at the moment. Realistically not a tool I should be using right now.

3rd blossom on the snow peas. Most of the early ones I eat right off the vine.

Kyle,
sorry about the rear ender, glad you are ok
the only silver lining here is that whatever car you get to replace the wrecked one, will likely
be safer. With more things that go beep...

The reality is if you go to kbb.com and look up the value of your car, I think today you can stand firm
on that number being your minimum, particularly with new tires. The insurance company has a variety of different
valuation databases, not sure if they are required to tell you which one they used.
Used car values are up, a lot. Good for selling, bad for buying. Like real estate right now.

Sun is trying to break through the clouds, kind of a bright grey day.

Kyle, when the insurance company says what they want to pay for your car, THEN tell them to add for new tires and anything you think makes it worth more. Or maybe get it fixed instead of totaled. Many years ago my wife got rear ended in a little old car that we had to tow behind a motorhome. The guy's insurance, same company as ours but he was on the assigned risk plan, want to total the little car, but when I explained about the low mileage, being rigged for towing, etc. the insurance company paid to have it all fixed.

Been there, done that, except mine was head-on with another motorcycle.

Most important, both you and your wife should go see a doctor for an exam as soon as possible. Soft tissue injuries don't show up in x-rays, and insurance companies won't pay for physical therapy or (gasp) surgery unless there's been an exam very soon after the accident. I was also rear-ended by a Deputy Sheriff, and am still having neck injury issues more than 20 years later. I had to sue in small claims court because no attorney would take my case, and only ended up with a couple thousand and no medical compensation because I didn't document my injury with a hospital/doctor visit.

As far as the car goes, start looking on sites like cars.com and ebay motors to get a feel for what your car is selling for. Look at the CLOSED auctions on ebay to establish a range of SOLD prices. Put together a list of URLs and have them ready to show the insurance adjuster. Also start gathering up the receipts for the parts and work you've done to the car. That will boost the actual cash value, which is what the insurance company adjustor will be working to.

Don't let your insurance company provide you with a settlement. They'll sometimes offer to do that, and then go after the opposing party for reimbursement. But they'll seldom give you the full value of your claim.

Don't be in any hurry to settle, especially until you've got a few symptom free months under your belt.

I'm not an attorney, I don't play one on TV, and I didn't even sleep in a Holiday Inn Express last night. So take what I'm writing here with a grain of salt, and do some googling to see what other have done in similar circumstances.

Good luck, and I hope you and your wife will be fine after your recovery.
