That's pretty much what Chewwy said.

Read the 'conclusion' in the article I posted. Dealers don't have to 'band together' anymore. It's all set by the Manufacturer so it relieves them of the burden. That's the whole idea.

And those Dealers that don't play along can lose their franchise. And Deere is very serious about that. If you defy them, they seldom take your franchise away from you, they'll 'encourage' you to sell it. People are standing in line to buy them. They can also open a franchise next door to you and force you out. This very, very seldom happens. They're all getting so fat, they don't wanna fight.

As a warning, sometimes what they do is delay (a lot) delivery of hot sellers. Like if a certain tractor is a hot item in your area, you ain't getting any until you knuckle under.

I know WTF I'm talking about. One of my Buddies up North is a retired Executive VP From Deere. SUPER nice guy. Wonderful person. Know what his retirement package? Full pay. But don't get too excited. Deere pays it's active executives with bonuses. You get a decent base salary and then get bonused couple times year. That's where the money is. He doesn't get that, he only gets his base salary. No clue what that is but I'm certain it's 6 figures.

I;m not saying it's bad thing. What I'm saying is that you can sometimes do better. Deere is a very profitable, very well-run, very smart Comapny.

But their focus, like every other manufacturer, is on keeping their own company financially healthy.

Many of their competitors are fighting for market share. Some are doing a very good job of it. They're not nearly as profitable because they're not charging what the big kahuna in town does.

Me, Deere makes darn good tractor but I don't think they're worth it in the smaller tractors. In the Seriously Big Mofos, I have no clue. It's way above my pay grade. But I understand Deere kicks bootie in that market.

My only concern is the small compact utility tractors. I'm not even sure Deere cares that much about that market anyway. Although, IMO, they're starting to more and more. But their pricing is unrealistic, IMHO.

Just my 2 cents and worth even less

Read the text originally quoted in the earlier post. It wasn’t the manufacturer setting the price. It was the dealers colluding between themselves to not undercut each other.

It was one Dealer telling another Dealer (probably [almost certainly] in the same family of dealerships) that he can't sell a tractor for less than what Deere has the price set at.

If you think it was collusion then go see a lawyer about getting rich by suing them. Let me know what he says when he stops laughing.

Go on tractorhouse.com and wonder why you don't see too many NEW tractors with prices on them. It's usually "CALL" for pricing. A few of the lesser-known brands will give you below-sticker prices because they're struggling to get dealerships to represent them anyway.

Some are like, "Okay you can tell me what to sell the tractor for, but you can't tell me what I give away with it". Which is very, very true. So some dealers offer 'packages' and get around it that way.

Deere's got that locked down, too. Their dealers are afraid to take a dump without their permission. One reason is; they make a butt-load of money. No way they're kill the goose that lays the golden egg.

Maybe you think it was 'collusion' but it wasn't. No way it fits the legaal description of collusion. It sucks. It does suck. But it doesn't fit the legal description of collusion.

The OP got them back anyway. If I were him, I'd send the sales receipt to them with a thank you note. That would be knee-slapper right there

Got a call from the salesman today and my tractor is ready! I’m getting it tomorrow. I’ll post pics as requested and I’ll also let y’all know how the taxes work out. I can say that living near the state line I regularly purchase items across the line. I’ve never paid additional sales taxes in my home state for anything untitled.

Very exciting. Good luck!

I would plead ignorance on paying Use tax as an individual if discovered. On big ticket items like tractors the dealerships are prime targets for routine sales & use tax audits by states. States generally are strapped for audit personnel so they go where the big money is.

Back in the 90s many Mississippi residents were crossing into Tennessee to buy ATVs to save money on taxes. MS dealers complained to the state and MS auditors checked the TN dealers books. Lots of folks got bills for the unpaid taxes plus penalties.

Seems rather backward.

MS is OK with their retailers losing sales to TN as long as they get their incremental sales taxes? Heck with the retailer.

Short sighted tax policy in my humble opinion. How much more would MS get if their tax rates were competitive and people bought in MS?

Rhetorical question.

As an out of state person you did not any tax in TN. The purchaser was supposed to pay the taxes to MS. I do not know if it still that way.
