Kubota L6060 Engine failure

Sorry to hear this outcome. Particularly for your sake and also for other Kubota owners out there. Including me with pretty much the same model.

Oof, that blows. C'mon Kubota.

I would love if we had a fuel-injector engineer on here to chime in. I am still confused how any commanded duty cycle or rail pressures would wipe out the fuel pump and injectors all at one time. Still kinda smells like the shop just threw all the parts at it to get it running.

Thanks for sharing a painful experience. A few of those repairs would end my hobby farming. Beginning to talk like my dad on the “economics” of new equipment.

Hope for trouble free hours from now on.

I have had many helpful comments from people on this site. Thank you all. Here is the latest information. The fuel tests came back clean. The injector tests came back with all four injectors "stuck closed". The solenoid controlling the injector pump tested as working properly. However, the pump was producing no output. It had failed. Finally, it was discovered that the ECU had failed. All three failed simultaneously. Neither the dealership nor Kubota can give me any explanation as to how or why this could happen. The only explanation that I have heard that made any sense was that the ECU failed in a catastrophic way that took out the pump and injectors with it. The ECU is the only common denominator in this failure. i controls the flow of fuel to the pump, the pressure in the rail by modulating the injector pump solenoid, and controls the timing and opening and closing of the injectors.

Kubota has decided not to assume any responsibility for this failure.

For those of you that own a L6060, I hope for your sake that this was a fluke occurrence and it won't happen to you. Imagine the damage that could occur if the ECU decided to fail in a way that opened an injector when a piston was in the wrong position.

For those of you considering buying an L6060, be warned. This was a $10,027.09 bad experience for me.

This is a very unfortunate outcome. I am very sorry.
I feel that Kubota should have assumed "some" responsibility for the failure.

This outcome will be factored in my future purchase decisions and perhaps alternative brands will become more attractive down the road.

I would take the injectors and pump to a place that specializes in fuel injectors. I realize your location might make that tough but with all the trucks around there, there must be a place. See if they can do a post mortem to tell you what they think happened.

I imagine AK could request those parts returned to him.

Kubota shouldn't keep those parts...they didn't pay for them!

That's a terrible outcome and I hate to hear anyone go through this.
I believe I would be trading into another brand . If you take away reliability there's nothing special about a kubota compared to other top tier brands.
I believe I will for sure be trading out of my brand new grand L4060 just as soon as I can . I understand failures happen but I totally think the dealer was incompetent and kubota could've stepped up and offered something I mean come on. That's bs .

Selling a brand new tractor in AL because of an incompetent dealer in AK. That'll show 'em!

I don't understand how it is a fault of the manufacturer, the tractor was out of warranty. Now the troubleshooting procedures at the dealership might be a little questionable, but that isn't the manufacturer's job.

There is at least some responsibility on the manufactures part to ensure they are represented by competent dealers with trained technicians.

Yes - maybe even more than some responsibility.

The manufacturer selects their dealers. The manufacturer sets the standards under which the deal operates.

The dealer is the only interaction a manufacturer has with customers. Dealers are critically important.

I think your missing the point here. Why support a company that won't support their tractors? I do think that in this situation Kubota could/should have offered something more than over priced parts.

I'm not missing anything. And I bet he doesn't sell his tractor.

It would have been good public relations for Kubota to assist for at least the parts. They have no obligation to, it would be just good business.

My guess is if that dealer started forgiving repair costs, there would be a long line at the door. Is this a small dealer that does not do a lot of repair work?

Yep, agreed. Considering that several parts failed, at the same time, without any reason (verified by the Dealer and Kubota Corp), I feel that Kubota should have accepted "some" responsibility for the repair, as a "Goodwill Warranty".

I fully understand that the tractor is out of warranty and Kubota has no obligation but, in this situation, with this tractor, it would have been nice to see.

So you think it's ok that kubota thinks it's ok to charge the customer full retail price for the parts ?
And it's also ok that kubota is ok with there authorized dealer to basically do parts swapping at the customers expense ?

And about this bet your making that I won't sell my new tractor , I most certainly will trade out if this tractor just as soon as I ether pay the balance down enough to trade it in for pay off or make up my mind to pay the difference. Was you wanting to put any money on this bet ? I'll cover whatever amount you wanna put on it. You don't know me.

I was already on the fence about trading it off for a 6060 just because it's under powered . Now I'm leaning more towards another jd .

Why defend kubota when at the very least they could've helped him out on the parts ?

/ Kubota L6060 Engine failure #159
Kubota isn't charging the customer for the parts or the labor. Their responsibility ends with the warranty. The decision to not participate in a goodwill claim is theirs. Any responsibility for improper diagnosis, unauthorized repairs or unnecessary part replacement lies with the dealer.

Well the dealer is the face of kubota for better or worse so if this is the start of a new trend for kubota I wouldn't want to own any kubota stock.
