Cost to asphalt a gravel road?

sounds like you havnt even called a couple of local contractors. Never heard of one charging for a estimate. Guessing it will be closer to a price than estimates made here on TBN

Our county engineer frequently quotes $100,000 per mile to repave a road.

Obviously that's probably double the width you need, cause 12' is narrow.....but that's just a repave. Minimal prep work and already a good base on a repave job.

I think your neighbor is nuts. Sounds like the rest of you need to run him off and bach to the city.

I have no idea what it costs, but something to consider is what is in the asphalt mix. One of my clients is the manager of the local asphalt plant and she said that some contractors really go cheap on the mix for their jobs, and the city has the highest standards for their mix. If you want it to last, and you want the best materials used, be sure to get the mix that the city uses!!!!

The only contractor I plan to call is the one that he gets an estimate from.

And the purpose of that call is to ask him if really really wants to get into the middle of a neighbor war. In other words, I hope to make it a No Win for him.

Deluxe carpeting would only cost half as much with pad & tack-less..

Without an established and prepared base, I'd count on garbage trucks, contractors, school buses, and snow plows to bust up the job's edges within a few years.

Private road: We don't get garbage trucks, school buses or snow plows (we live in BFE TN, there are no snow plows around here!).

UPS and Fedex trucks, unless someone wants some concrete, then the concrete trucks show up. We've had a couple of those.

Around here, eastern PA, $4-6 a sq ft. That’s for binder later and top coat.

OK, check my math:

5280/2 = 2640 ft. 2640' x 8' wide = 21,120 sq ft. 21,120 x $4 = $84,480.

Everybody has propane. Only seen one septic truck but we all have a tank.

Municipality here tar and chips some roads here that demand "special attention" but not to the extent and expense of paving. They drive nice if you ask me.

As for my 1000 driveway. The cost to dig out all the organic material and build a proper base, so the ashphalt will last, would be significant. In addition to the paving!
