Switching Oil to 0W-40

I have NEVER used SYNTHETIC oil in anything.

I just bought JD 0-40 for my little Steiner Diesel tractor (Kubota D722). It had run Plus 50, 15W40. Thought it would be kinder on this little very hard working engine and a tough one to get started without block heater. I figured it would spin over faster in the cold. Was going to put it in my MULE as well, not that I ever had a single starting issue, despite having no block heater.

I am disappointed. MAYBE the Steiner gets oil sooner and will last longer, but I can't say that it spins over any faster in these very cold weeks we have just had.

Thanks for the feedback.

I run 15w-40 (Dino oil - rotella t4) in my truck in the summer and 5w-40 (Synthetic - shell rotella t6) in the winter. The truck definitely spins over faster and starts easier in negative temperatures using 5w-40. (2012 6.7 cummins - 3 gallons of oil)

This winter I switched out whatever oil came in my tractor from the previous owner with valvoline 5w-30 (Dino oil) but it lives in the garage so I can’t really say what it’s done to help it start / spin over easier in freezing cold weather

If you want to run the same oil all year, definitely 0w-40 or 5w-40

Why not run 5w40 all year round? Silly.

So the local dealer only carries 15w-40, online i can pickup Plus-50 II Synthetic Blend Motor Oil 0W-40

We have a long cold winters with over 4-5months and site states 500hrs on drain intervals. Not sure I will let it sit that long and will still change it yrly

John Deere Plus-5 II Synthetic Blend Motor Oil W-4

Any one have any good or bad experience? Specially in summer time using the synthetic blend. Also not sure I really really buy the whole 500hr extension in drain times..
Not sure why it's stating synthetic blend the plus 50 II 0w40 is a FULLY synthetic base stock oil very very good oil use it with confidence

I switch back and forth to save money. Since I drive my truck a lot and 5w-40 shell rotella t6 is super expensive compared to 15w-40 shell rotella t4.

Recently TSC had a sale on 15w-40 valvoline blue (cummins endorsed oil) for $10 a gallon... I bought all they had, lol. 9 gallons for under $100. That’s 3 oil changes

Shell rotella T6 is normally right around $30 a gallon, so $90 for 1 oil change. (Not including the price of the oil filter)

The filters and oil have been ordered, hoping to get them by this weekend and do that change soon.
Maybe I am mixing it up but no discount with the TTWT coupon anymore from greenpartsstore.

Something must be broken. The code should work.
We’ll work on it.
