So the local dealer only carries 15w-40, online i can pickup Plus-50 II Synthetic Blend Motor Oil 0W-40

We have a long cold winters with over 4-5months and site states 500hrs on drain intervals. Not sure I will let it sit that long and will still change it yrly

John Deere Plus-5 II Synthetic Blend Motor Oil W-4

Any one have any good or bad experience? Specially in summer time using the synthetic blend. Also not sure I really really buy the whole 500hr extension in drain times..

Better than 15w40 and a good price. It is a "synthetic blend". Not really sure what that is, probably a blend of hydrotreated, probably a blend of solvent dewaxed and hydrodewaxed. Not really sure what you're getting in a "blend".

Deere's 0W-40 is a full-synthetic. It's good from like -40F to +120F. It's a "pour it in and forget it" oil. I switched to it in my 2720 for better cold weather starts. You still need to do an annual oil change if under 200 hrs. per year.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. On average i only get to use it 50-60hrs a yr so I will switch to it also.

Fuel economy will be better, e.g. less pumping loss, if you use a 0w30 or 5w30. It's also good year round. All face 190 F thermostat set point in water cooling. Those upper temperature numbers in the oil charts are for air cooled engines.

No thermostat or temp gauge on the JD 2720

Still water cooled, the 2720. Consider the fact that millions of VW TDIs (Turbo Direct Injuection) use 5w30 oil. That's 5w30 running through bearings with hot exhaust gases on the other side.

The 2720 you refer to must be unique because a thermostat is shown in 2720 parts catalog
I apologize, meant to say there is no dash temp gauge, I am pretty sure it has the thermostat in there :p
