The bigger question is why did a state have to ask for permission from the DOE to ramp up energy to the masses that needed it.

The whole thing sounds wonky.
That is a big deal. Why would Texas have to get permission and wait for it on an EMERGENCY request to increase energy production in a situation like that. BTW, the request was for a waiver of emission regulations. So, supposedly the air quality was more important than the electric grid for 90% of the state that has the 15th largest economy in the world. Which also came within 5 minutes of a complete shutdown of their grid. It would have taken weeks to bring it back up. This is extremely serious business.

And, BTW, yes, there was a delay in getting permission from the Feds.

Well, here in lies the problem. The DOE does not regulate fossil fuels. The department of the interior does or used to. The DOE regulates nukes and energy from nukes. Emissions from fossil fuels really doesn't fall in their wheelhouse. Insert the EPA, and add another chest beater to the fray along with the BLM.

Bottom line, too many regulatory departments that step on each other's turf. And they like their power. So, the citizen ends up with having to deal with these clowns.

Ive dealt with them in the oil and coal business. Its a confusing mess to say the least.
